| It's lurker's understanding that the Baseball team from DCCC is volunteering their time tomorrow (Sunday, Oct 30) toward helping some area Senior Citizens in cleaning, raking leaves, caulking and even painting windows. This has been coordinated through the Retired Senoir Volunteer Program.

| Congrats to the baseball team! They might grumble a little bit from being "urged" too much, but they'll have a lot of fun and feel so good when they're finished. There's nothing like it. Up here, we have several larger companies that sponsor work days. Sprint is one. They pick a day in October, their crews choose houses where the occupants just can't afford to hire work done. Home Depot and some of the other lumberyards around here donate materials, the workers bring their own tools and they get a lot done! The pics are fabulous. Usually there's one of a tearful resident thanking the group with lunch or goodies. They do things like paint, maybe even some carpeting, some roofing (not complete roof jobs), some yard work, etc. Last year, a heating/air contractor even donated a new furnace and installation. Just warms the cockles of your heart! ![]()

| Oddly enough - these guys are helping my 78 yo sister this weekend. She said it was habitat of humainity - but then she also has some serious memory issues. I just want to say that I think this is just too great. My sis is getting her windows caulked and the yard cleaned. It's sad the situation she has found herself in. If these guys lay carpet - I would love to talk to them. I'm doing financial stuff with her but am too far away to really be much "muscle" help. Was actually thinking of grabbing my DIL and doing the 4 day weekend whirlwind clean up for her. Being 800 miles away - I would be more than happy to donate or pay "reliable" organization to get her carpet laid. She bought the carpet but didn't know it didn't come installed. Now her furniture is in the basement and she doesn't have the funds for the "lay down". Anyone with contact can email me at my yahoo email add. She obviously isn't "real" sure of just who she talked to - Her kids have kinda bowed out and being the "little sis" - ya just do what you can and what you must. Lastly IF one of her kids or their wives read this - you ought to be ashamed!! You were raised better!!
