Good old Dodge, always the bad example.

Thought this was interesting--

If came from a reliable source, but I can't promise the quote is attributed to the correct person

WOW - what an insult to all hyphenated - bilingual - illegal alien- Americans! Who does this Teddy Roosevelt think he is?

ON BEING AN AMERICAN:

"... if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American and nothing but an American ... There can be no divided allegiances here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag,... we have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Teddy Roosevelt -- 1907

How would it be possible for them to enter the U.S. legally?

Just jumped into this thread late, but this is the part I don't get -- Would the border patrols say, "Oh, okay, come on over!" They wouldn't do it illegally if they could cross legally.

I don't know much about this issue; I just know that since moving to Dodge in August, I've realized this is a serious issue here, so I'm wondering how they could go about coming here in a legal manner.

The other problem I foresee is that the cheap labor for the corporations probably doesn't cause much incentive to get rid of cheaper labor and hire more expensive U.S. workers. Especially if the corporations are practically holding hands with the government.

We touched on that a couple weeks ago. Check out this thread.

How hard is it to obtain citizenship?

Failure to enforce immigration laws is unfair to those who obey the law and go through the regulatory and administrative requirements to enter the country legally. Those who enter and remain in the country illegally are violating the law, and condoning or encouraging such violations causes a general disrespect for the law and thereby increases the likelihood of further illegal conduct.

If you go to the trouble to get your green card, or resident alien card, work visa, or student visa, then you can live here legally. Just the same as we'd have to do if we went to another country. Everyone that comes to this country is supposed to go thru this proccess, but some don't. Some northern states have the same problem we have, only it's with illegal immigrants from Canada. It is a long, and somewhat confusing process, but if you're willing to do it, then you're welcome here as far as the government is concerned. My family did it, and there's no reason everyone else couldn't too.
