Almost sounds to me like maybe a tip wasn't deserved if they had to resort to helping themselves to get a beer. I don't know because I wasn't there, I'm just sayin'....

Monster - you're right on target there. We have an Olive Garden about 2 miles from the house (Overland Park). Every time I drive by, there seems to be a standing-room only crowd. Any time I've eaten there, I've enjoyed the food and the wait staff if courteous. But then, the restaurants up here can hire the teenage types that are just needing extra money; but they also have the luxury of hiring professional wait staff that are in it for the tips. Some of those people take home some pretty good money at the end of the shift.

Too bad we don't have the population to warrant an Olive Garden. It would do well here for awhile. The service is directly influenced by the management. THey only do what they are trained to do...or not do. If sh*t is messed up...blame the manager and their lack of presence, leadership and checking up on the service.

I have a ? If I am in a public place and I hear the waitstaff using profanity should I notify the manager or let it go?

I would say, depends on the profanity, where it was said, how loud it was said.

If a couple of waiters are standing by the wait stand ringing up an order and you hear one tell the other "That Army guy is a dick 'cause he doesn't tip very well." I would probably let it go.

If they were at the bar or in the middle of all the tables and customers and are F'n and Sh'n all the time, I would probably bring it up to the manager.

I appreciate that...lol. I was in there one night and I always sit at the hi-tops in the lower area. A couple of employees were off the clock and sitting next to us eating...their conversation, which was rather loud was profanity laced and very annoying. Profanity doesn't bother me...(im in the army for Christs sake) but there is a time and place for everything.....

Muffin, I know people that make a pretty good living on tips. Plus, it is cash and not reported. Some of them make a helluva lot more money than me!!

If they were off the clock I wouldn't take it to the manager without first asking them to ease up on the language, if they give attitude after being asked to stop and continue to cuss away, then I would see no problem in telling the manager that their language is annoying you as a paying customer.

Oh yeah...I've been in the Army 18+ years. I can take a ribbing or 12. My skin is about as thick as my head. I love to dish a little out and take a lot. THat's what I love about this board...it can be sooooooo fun.
