The actual act of typing is not usually a physically demanding task, so that is by no means what I meant...

There is a whole lot more to an affidavit in support of a search warrant than sitting down on Word pad and typing "I saw this item at the shop. It is stolen. Please grant me a warrant. I swear to this. Thank you."

As far as thinking it is inconvenient, a LOT of the paperwork we do could be considered "inconvenient". It is also inconvenient to have to stop whatever we are doing when the parent of a 12 year old says they need an officer to scold young Billy because he wont clean his room. Likewise, it is inconvenient when we have to spend two hours with the drunk guy that almost hit three cars. But those "inconveniences" are part of our job - we do it the way it is supposed to be done. If we dont, then we might lose the case or credibility.

Once the affidavit is typed, it is by no means a done deal. The judge must then decide if the warrant will be granted. That is totally out of our hands. We do the best we can on the affidavit then hope it is good enough. Again, affidavits can be very simple and cut and dried - in some scenarios, it is not that simple, and that is why we type the affidavit and let the judge make the ultimate decision.
