If I remember correctly the folks who made AC (Turbine I believe) are also making Middle-Earth Online now, and of course WoW is still the best MMORPG out right now in my opinion.

Im on the short list as a tester (beta-ed EQ and WoW).
Let me know how it goes. I've heard a bit about Vanguard.

You are right Dustin. Turbine, makers of Asheron's Call, are doing Middle Earth Online(MEO). They are also doing Dungeons & Dragons.

Asheron's Call was due to end 3 years ago but it has been so successful its still going after 6 years. Part of their success has been the game dynamics. Unlike all other MMORPG's AC has the old shooter style feel like Quake, yet all the RP'ing of modern RPG's. Its what has kept me playing AC so long.

I've tried most of the new MMORPG's even WOW but it just didn't feel the same. Solo-able is a big one for me. I know many others claim to be solo-friendly, but most lose the ability as you get to the upper levels.

I played QuakeWorld(teamfortress) for years and in that game if you die you loose. That survival instinct followed me to AC. I hate to die!!!. In AC I have characters level 100+ over 4 years old that have never died. That don't mean much to some players but it does to me. When I played QuakeWorld I was rated 32nd out of 500,000 players and I was the only dial-up player in the top 1000.

Socom II and III for the PS2 are great player skill online games. I play these way too much.

Also my kids and I are completely hooked on City of Heroes and City of Villains for the PC.
