| You're right Zeb. Mac's claim of virus free is very misleading. The big difference between the MAC OS and Windows OS is MAC doesn't allow applications to integrate with the OS. The advantage is quality control and being the only source for software with the latter being the real reason they don't allow integration.
Windows, or Microsoft, freely distributes programs such as Visual Basic, C+ and Visual Studio that allow users to write programs that integrate with Windows. The advantage is far more available applications, free enterprise and thus cheaper pricing through healthy competition.
MAC claims no viruses because technically no virus can integrate with its OS only its applications so there is only viruses at the application layer. Hence their claim of no viruses. There are thousands of viruses that infect Mac's but not its OS.
Most Window viruses infect from applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook just like MAC viruses but Microsoft has never sidestepped them like Apple does.
