Laptop sound card?

Please help me, I have an old laptop IBM 390X with Win 2000. my problem is the sound card does not work. By the looks of the machine it is all the way under EVERYTHING, is there a sound card I can just plug in like my wireless card? I have even tried plugging in headphones to the laptop and that does not even work, so I think the whole sound card is bad, any ideas? I don't need anything fancy just use this if I travel and then can play music from ITunes on the laptop instead of my IPod. Any ideas? thanks

Did you reinstalling the drivers?

well the volume button is broken so I guess reinstalling the drivers won't help much.

That really sux when Helper needs a helper.

Right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and go to Properties. Go to the 2nd tab and click Device Manager. Once it opens look for any devices with the yellow exclamation mark. If you see one on your sound card it may not be broken only as Lurker said in need of a driver.

If so Right click on the exclamation mark and do the Update Driver. Hopefully it should go out and find the driver.

They do make a USB(external) sound card.
