Dell Laser Printer

Any printer guru's out there? I hate Dell - Printer LCD display shows 934 printhead error. Went to Dell's site and they do not list error codes to match what is on their display.

What exactlly is a printhead in a LASER printer?

You have Toner cart, Pickup Roller, Transfer Roller, and the Fuser Assm. Do a lookup on Printhead for Laser Printer and there is no such part in a Laser Printer. Unless they mean the Toner Cart. I understand printer parts but this has thrown me for a loop.

exact error on a Dell m5300n laser printer "934 printhead error" but you wont find that on Dell's site for troubleshooting.

What is the printhead on a laser printer?

I find several people asking about this on Dell's forums but the only solution they offer is to on/off the printer which does work for a few pages then back to the error again.

My guess would be what ever transfers the ink to the paper. Transfer roller maybe?

inkjet printer have printheads. Laser printer use toner.

however I understand what you are saying. to me it would be either transfer roller or the cartridge.

Funny. That's usually what he does to me at the plant. Now I know where he gets it from!

Laser printers do indeed have a printhead. It is also known as a laser scanner assembly. It is the part of the laser that scans the image onto the OPC drum, after the charging cycle, in preperation for the developing cycle. They are costly- usually between 180-300. It is usually easier to just replace the printer than to replace a laser scanner assembly in a cheap printer. I've replaced a few, only on a big laser printer and only because it was under warranty- and it was not fun. Personally, I'd trash it.

Keep in mind that ALL DELL laser printers are made by Lexmark, not dell- tell me your model number and I will get you to the Lexmark equivalent manual.

Oh, and if you do decide to replace the part, don't forget to perform the laser calibration and the laser alignment procedures.

The job is sent to the printhead. Printhead sends it to the Cartridge. Cart puts it to the transfer roller. Transfer roller to paper. Then it is sent through the fuser. final product.

Is that correct?

DELL M5300n (not a cheapy)

would probably be the lexmark T6XX series I am guessing.


ps you are correct. I wouldn't try to change it out. Looking at where it appears to be located under the output tray.

The printhead or the laser assym has to be a part of another assym. Click that link that says replace printhead and it gives you a list of printers. There is no such assym listed, so i assume it has to be part of another assym?

Did that even make sense? hehe
