Wireless card help

I have cabbaged onto a wireless card for a PC. I would like to get this PC put in my sons room, to free up my confuser work station.

Anyhoo I have a Cisco AIR PCI340 (or could be a PC1340) I put it in the trusty Compaq with windows ME and it can't find a driver for it (go figgure) I thought I would be smart and get on Cisco's website and just download the software I needed, jeez it was more confusing that trying to figgure out how Lurker was picking the numbers for the Christmas lottery!

I have a Hawking Tech wireless router (Got it cheap on ebay) hopefully they will be compatable? Please let me know how I can get the software for my computer to make it "run" I looked other places on the 'net but am throwing in the towel! I would like an easy way to do this from somebody who knows more about computers than I. Thanks in advance!

Look for "802.11X" on the units to see if "x" is the same.

Try here

http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/tableb...onet-utils-win

Once I get to work I'll see if I might have an original install disk. The model(PCI 340) sounds awful familiar.

Ok I got the software for windows ME, and installed it now all I get is errors, like WO error and will shut down (don't fully remember it) and everytime I click on Internet Explorer it gives me an error that Explorer has caused an error and will shut down, I click OK and the Internet Explorer quits.

It's so confusing all the little voices in my head keep telling to go different directions!!

From here it appears that you have a software issue and I won't venture a solution. So, while we're waiting Detector to ride in on his White Horse, a brief tutorial from http://computer.howstuffworks.com/wi...-network2.htm:
Quote:
You might be wondering where the funny 802.11 nomenclature comes from. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) creates standards, and they number these standards in unique ways. The 802.11 standard covers wireless networks. The a, b and g notations identify different flavors of the 802.11 standard:

802.11b was the first version to reach the marketplace. It is the slowest and least expensive of the three. As mentioned above, 802.11b transmits at 2.4 GHz and can handle up to 11 megabits per second.
802.11a was next. It operates at 5 GHz and can handle up to 54 megabits per second.
802.11g is a mix of both worlds. It operates at 2.4Ghz (giving it the cost advantage of 802.11b) but it has the 54 megabits per second speed of 802.11a.
Fortunately, all of this radio technology is hidden in a WiFi card and is completely invisible. WiFi, in fact, is one of the easiest technologies that you will ever use.
Notice the last sentence.... I hate it when someone says that, too...

It sounds like your drive is not the correct one. This one says it supports ME

http://www.network-drivers.com/drivers/125/125907.htm

I'm still looking for a CD I might have that supports the PCI340

With all those errors, it could be a combo of things. I would start with removing the wireless card completly including any software it installed.

Update then clean all spyware and viruses. When you are sure you are clean, make sure you close any apps running before re-install. (including firewall and/or AV temporarily) Both of those can mess with install of other software. (make sure you don't forget to turn those back on when done).

I use AVG - AD-AWARE - and SPYBOT to clean up. (all free apps). Delete any Temp Internet Files, Cookies, & History before re-install from your internet options in control panel.

If you want me to clean it, PM me and I will tell you where you can drop off the computer.
