| Excel and Word aren't part of works though, they're from MSOffice. I think he's saying they were there, then one day they weren't.

| What brand is it? Some brands come with it, some come with it as an upgrade, and some don't come with it at all. Openoffice is an opensource program that's supposed to be identical, or nearly identical as office, except it's free, unlike office. You could use Kodiak's Works. MSWorks can open Excel and Word files. I think wordpad can also open word files, and I believe Internet Explorer can be used to view them. I know MS has a small program that can be used to open Powerpoint files without having powerpoint, so they may have them for others also. WordPerfect. Haven't used it much, and not recently, but it may be able to open them.I do have a copy of Office 2003, and Office XP that I got, Umm, somewhere. I'd be happy to send one your way, for, um, educational purposes, right.

| You can get the free Excel viewer here. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=EN In most cases, when you buy a new PC you are given a choice on Office Suites. Walmarts, for what ever reason, must have made the choice for Perfect Office on that machine. Perfect Office comes with Word Perfect and Quarto Pro while Microsoft Office would come with MS Word and Excel. They both cost the same so I'm not sure why anyone would choose Perfect Office. I don't know about Quarto Pro but Excel has the ability to convert(import) other brands of spread sheets maybe Quarto Pro can Import .xls if you save the file to your hard drive first.

| Knowing how Wal*Mart does business, I’d wager they got Perfect Office at a huge discount and MS wouldn’t match it.

| Could be but I don't think there is a price difference. Chances are either they(Walmarts in-house electronics manager) chose to order some of both(MS Office/Perfect Office) or they have the Schroeder syndrome. Some idiot thought Perfect Office was better and didn't consider the buyers probable choice.

| They probably are the same price, at retail to us. Wal*Mart doesn’t pay retail. Check this out when you have a little time. It’s a bit long. http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/77/walmart.html Quote:

| Thread Hijack! The pickle company (valasic?) went bankrupt after crawling in bed with walfart. There's an amazing difference between making a nickel a jar and losing a nickle a jar. Levi's made the same mistake. They're only a label now. I'll bet that they don't even own a sewing needle.....
