    Dodge City Casino Opens

A new casino has opened in Dodge City, as Kansas bets on drawing additional tourists to a town best known as the setting of televisions "Gunsmoke."

The Boot Hill Casino and Resort let customers onto its gambling floor shortly after clearing its final regulatory hurdle Tuesday. Boot Hill is the first of four state-owned casinos authorized by a 2007 law. Olathe-based Butler National Corp. committed nearly $90 million to its construction.

The casino has more than 580 slot machines and 12 tables for games such as blackjack.

The casino's Western theme plays on Dodge City's history as a formerly raucous cowtown in the 1870s and 1880s. A ribbon-cutting ceremony -- and a visit from Gov. Mark Parkinson-- are set for Wednesday.

They're reporting operating hours of: 24/7, 365! Who needs Vegas?
