Video Rental: High Tension

Oh those crazy French!

I am not a squeamish person. I can enjoy a plate of spaghetti while watching Dawn of the Dead. This movie though......

There are many, many parts in this movie where I made such statements as: "Son of a -----!" "Oh my f----- God!" "Holy ----!" while my girlfriend just said "EWWWWWWWWWWW!" (she doesn't have the same vocabulary as I do)

The very first scene with the "bad guy" tells you what you are in for. I won't ruin it for you but it involves a sexual act with a head. There is no sparing of blood and violence. What made it worse was not so much the visual, it was the sound effects. I am a firm believer that hearing the wet, squishy sounds of a person being sliced up is far more chilling than just seeing it. That is what makes this movie, if you are into that kind of stuff, worth renting. It definately has tension and suspense. It takes a page from Alfred Hitchcock on what is scary and adds some spice. You know something bad is going to happen but there is nothing you can do.
I will admit, the ending leaves you scratching your head and definately takes away from the movie, but it is still worth the rental. You know it is cool if you are still talking about scenes in it with your loved one days after you saw it.

I give it 3 out of 4 skulls based entirely on the sound effects and violence.

Din't think it was that great. Best part and get your attention at the first like you stated. It didn't seem to fit tho after the show goes on and you figure out who is whom. Good for watching once only IMO

Lars will become famous soon enough
I f'in LOVED THIS MOVIE!!! After that first scene that you mentioned, I looked at my SO and said, "That is the most vile thing I have ever seen!" and then we high-fived!! I agree about the sound effects, too. Especially the closet scene.

The ending is, IMO, pretty weird and lame, but it is of no consequence whatsoever. By the time you're done watching it, you're so bowled over by the actual movie that the ending is just a sidenote, anyway. "High Tension" really lives up to it's name. I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie.

Best. Horror. Movie. Ever.
