Warning: Black Dahlia Ripoff

I went to rent the movie Black Dahlia from a local rental store (won't tell you which one) and found several copies. I brought the movie home and starting watching it and.......WTF!! No Scarlett Johansson or any of the actors from the previews. What I got was the worst piece of crap imagineable. So...to help everyone avoid the same disaster, look very carefully at the movie you are about to pick up at the movie store. Both were released at about the same time to help the makers of the crap get sales, and also have similar artwork. Follow the two links below to Yahoo! movies which will give you reviews.

Ulli Lommel's Black Dahlia - Movie Info - Yahoo! Movies
The Black Dahlia - Movie Info - Yahoo! Movies

A couple of quick things to look for to spot the crap:
Crap is made by LionsGate
Real movie is made by Universal Pictures
Crap is produced by Ulli Lommel
Real is directed by Brian De Palma

Thanks for the heads up, but I tend to glance at more than just a title when renting. I also use The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) for my movie and actor info source as I believe there is no better database for movies around. Another good source for when a movie is going to be released on DVD is VideoETA - The best source for DVD release dates.

Also your generalization that LionsGate Films makes crap is completely off base. While it may be true for this movie, they have released many good, some might say great, films. Saw, and Saw 2 come to mind. Akeelah and the Bee was a very good, uplifting film. Hard Candy, while different and will give any guy a good mind f#*k was worth watching. Employee of the Month with Dane Cook, while it won't win any awards, was very entertaining.

By the way the Black Dahlia movie you are looking for was released in theaters on Sept. 15, 2006 and is expected to be released on DVD sometime in December 2006 with no firm release date yet.

Thanks for the links. I wasn't referring to LionsGate as being crap, just the movie. Sorry for the confusion.

I did the same thing!! I was in a hurry, saw the title, grabbed it and left. I know I should be more careful because that wasn't the first time it happened, but I was in a hurry. I agree it was craptacular!!! I only got about 15 minutes into before shutting it off and returning it.
