Sorry. I have read and re-read all my posts, and your responses. Not anywhere do I see that I spoke to you about your family in a derogatorive way. If fact, it looks to me that I was defending fat people (I used to be one). It is very hard to be supportive to you when I get attacked.

And it's so nice to know that the reason I'm overweight, along with a majority of Americans, is because I've been eating the wrong salads. I do believe current empirical evidence shows that a varied diet is healthier than a limited diet. Why not praise your sister for going out of her comfort zone and eating something with green vegetables rather than berating her for getting fried chicken, blue cheese, and creamy dressing?

It's my belief that portion size is more to blame than food selection. After all, everything I've read indicates that anything - ANYTHING can be eaten in moderation and still be part of a healthy diet. That means you have one onion ring, not a platter. One bite of cheesecake, not an eighth of a pie. Half a Cobb Salad, not the whole thing.

Why don't you invite her out on a walk to the park - and bring the kids along - instead of picking on what she chooses to eat?

I agree with you Tiger. Actually I have been on a diet the last few weeks. I have lost about 16 lbs and have did it through portion reduction and cutting fast food and soda from my diet. I eat somewhat healthier but still enjoy a peanut butter cup on occasion... In the U.S.A. we EAT big portions. We live for the buffet or the HUGE CHicken fried steak. You can't blame the food though or the portion size...you have to blame the lack of self control of the person. For me to loose weight it just takes a little bit of self control.

As far as the sister goes she is an adult and she makes adult decisions...if she decides to be grossly fat and is aware that she will die at an earlier age then I guess that's her right as long as we are not paying her doctor bills. THE REAL INJUSTICE is the child that is suffering because of the laziness and stupidity of the parenting...(or lack there of). Social Services or SOMEONE should get involved to save the child.

AoO - same here. I've dropped 17 pounds in the last few months, and the single biggest thing I learned was that I was just used to eating way too much food. It wasn't WHAT I was eating that was killing me, it was HOW MUCH. I still drink soda and eat out, but when I eat out I compensate for it. When I have cravings, I satisfy them. I've still got a ways to go, but it seems easy going to just focus on two pounds at a time.

Actually, I'm a little scared by how easy it's gone...
