| How anybody in their right mind could even possibly, with a straight face , say that McDonalds is an option for food................. I have eaten there twice, and twice the food was pure crap. Actually, all McDonalds serve the same crap. I take that back........they do have good ketchup.

| I'm sitting here at the sonic in Larnard. (I have an aircard..) Not only was the order taker clear and concise but very friendly. When she brought my order out she also offered me the morning paper. (Nice touch if you ask me) and told me to have a great day. I have been thinking about the service in Dodge. If it was true that all young people are jacked up it would be everywhere. Have you ever been to the McDonalds in Pratt? It's excellent. I believe it begins and ends with the management. I'm going to go off on a military style rant here but....THE manager and assistant managers are ultimately responsible for everything that happens and doesn't happen at their establishment. They hire the people that work there and train them. If they have lax standards then the employees will mirror the same. If the manager trains them, motivates them and such then it will show in the service with pride and team work. First and foremost is enforcing the standards and the uniforms. Walk into McDonalds and look at how people are dressed....untucked shirts, baggy pants, dirty clothes, hats on sideways...this is where it all starts. When I worked at a Mcdonalds we had to have our uniform on right or we couldn't work. In Dodge I have more than once told a kid to fix his hat before he took my order because the manager won't do it. If a manager either doesn't care or won't enforce a basic standard like the uniform then it's all down hill from there. You don't let the prisoners run the prison. Why can you go to Arby's and the employees are neatly dressed, clean and polite...I would say because of the management. Those employees are drawn from the same employee pool as McDonalds or Burger King...just better management I would say. If you have a problem don't blame the employee, blame the manager for letting it happen. I usually talk to the manager and ask him "is this your standard"? Because if it is then that's the end of the conversation right there and I won't go back. If it's NOT the standard then it may be fixable. Gotta hit the road...Headed to Great Bend, Wichita then back to Dodge...ugh.

| Well AoO I agree but not completely. Yes the managers do hire the employees, but it's not like they are intentionally hiring the bad apples. If all you've got to choose from is bad apples all you can do is pick the lesser of the bunch. Kind of like our elected officials. It's not just that managers that are hiring irresponsible employees, it's they employee pool they have to hiring from. So the entire blame does not lay just on the managers. In the case of Arby's, I think it's the work environment that has a lot to do with the employee pool. I know quite a few kids looking for jobs that WILL NOT work at places like McD's because of the treatment from the other employees. The reason most of these places end up with Hispanic employees is not just because they speak Spanish. Once you see a Hispanic manager in a short time you see all Hispanic employees.

| First before my post gets twisted let me clarify. I am not trying to say Hispanics are bad apples. My reference to bad apples is a reference to employees with poor communication skills. And by that I'm not just talking about speaking good English, but being polite as well. The type of employee you would want dealing directly with your customers. Not the employee wearing baggy shorts tied at the knees to look like they are midgets. I understand the manager makes the choice to hire, but what happens when their choice is limited? They've got to hire someone, and if all they've got to choose from is bad apples or close the doors, then what choice do they have? With the Hispanic population what it is in dodge the employee pool is what it is. The manager makes the decision to hire or not based on qualifications vs the need to hire. The greater the need to hire the lower the qualifications become. These kids ultimately have the choice to be a good employee or not. To take the responsibility to be a good representative of their employer or not. A lot of people complain about the quality of doctors we have in dodge, but few realize it's not as if they purposely choose these doctors, it's that those doctors willing to locate/re-locate to an area such as dodge is slim. Same with our local employee pool. I honestly believe that will all change with the addition of a casino.

You're right. The kids have a choice. However, a good manager will make that an easy choice. |
