If we had a city full of gang bangers would it be the managers fault for hiring gang bangers? Would you expect the manager to be able to make descent employees out of these gang bangers?

I think it's a two way street and both employer and employee are responsible for the overall performance.

I would think that as a manager, I would say that it isn't a matter of "does the kid want to improve." If the employee doesn't improve the employee is not going to be an employee long. I agree the manager sets the standard, if somebody can't or won't step up to that standard it's time to let them go and hire the next one.

Once other employees see that you aren't messing around they will step it up a notch and get the employee peer pressure to do a good job. Managers need to be strict but fair.

Looks good on paper but let me quote a former employer I talked to recently. I asked why his employees don't seem to be adhering to the standards I used to work under. I kidded him about getting old and soft. His answer was this:

"These kids today aren't like they were when we were young. Kids today don't really want a job. They don't care what you think of them. You can only fire so many before you run out of kids. They come to work only because their parole requires it. You can't fire them just because they don't care about their job or they sue you."

No, you can't. But you can document every time they don't comply with the work guidlines and practices (ie- company policy). If you document at least 3 seperate occasions that they didn't comply with policies you would have no problem backing up in court the reason they were fired.

Just went to Mickey D's about 45 min ago. Went inside to get my food to avoid the drive in "don't give a f**k attitude". Good news is...I got all my food. Bad news is the fries tasted like they were from lunch....ewwww. I threw mine away. ALL of the employees had their shirts untucked and looked sloppy except for one female. She had only one side untucked...maybe she was a manager...lol. The lady in charge...I hesitate to use the word manager was yelling at some girl because she wasn't cleaning the way she was supposed to. I told the lady tell the girl to go home and just take her off the schedule..that would fix that problem...lol. I don't know why I go there...I just get frustrated...grrrrrr.

Out of curiosity has anyone ever mentioned the idea of putting a McDonalds on the North side of town? Liberal has two and I am surprised no one has done this in Dodge yet. (I realize there aren't good employees, I'm just surprised that they don't want to do it for those travelers on that road).
