Have done that too, but have to be careful. I just got a contract with Mickey D's to provide the "secret sauce". You will have to excuse me now while I go "whip up a batch"!

I have served on many volunteer boards with Jim Geist,McDonald's owner and he gives back more of his own time and tons of charitable dollars to his community. And I still get great service and food! Employees? Work ethic starts at home - little late to change by high school - and remember the demographics of our population.

And there is the real problem.

I know Jim is a heck of a nice guy, and that one employee Bruce is a model employee, it's the other 98% that hurt the place.

McD's is not alone. The wife and I went to Wendy's the other day, we love that chili, and there wasn't a clean table in the place. All the employees were chattering, I'm guessing since I don't speak Spanish, behind the counter. My wife went and asked for a wet towel so she could clean off a table.

The next morning We went back for breakfast, I know, gluten for punishment, and the tables were still filthy. The gal that took my order obviously was very limited in English. I gave my order and she was looking me straight in the face when I clearly said that will be all. She made no facial expressions what so ever, just looked at me. I repeated again that that was all. She then with a sober face said "is that all?"

My wife and I looked at each other and just shook our heads.

I HATE that ...when you order and they say "is that all" like it's a bother to them to take their order. I told a girl the other day that it should be "is there anything else I can get for you today sir". Sometimes I get cut off with an "is that all" before I can even finish the order.

I know it is a demographic thing but it's also a management thing. Go into Arby's and check it out. Usually clean and great employees with great service.

What gets to me even more is I very often order only a drink. I will start by saying into the speaker "All I want is a......" then they ask, "is that all" or "can I get you anything else?" I usually then kick into high smart@ss gear and say... No, that is why I started with all I want is...

That's because you're dealing with people who just memorized the script. They don't have an alternative in their script. So you hear the same canned, is that all. I agree, is there anything else I can get for you this evening/morning/afternoon, sir/ma'am? is much better. Sometimes they mumble so badly, I'm not even sure what they ask. And I'm not sure they had the order right. So, I only go to Wendy's/McD's/Burger King if I'm really hungry and I know there's nothing to eat at home.
