A couple of years ago I, too, experienced those floaters aka spiders, also a noticeable darkening of my vision in that eye. Went to my eye doctor and it was a detached retina. Went to another eye doc and he "welded" the retina back with a laser. Felt pretty wierd but only a small amount of stinging when he hit somewhere back of the eye. All in all, it CAN be cause for alarm if it's a detached retina because it could lead to blindness if left uncorrected.
So until you get to a doc, don't pick up anything over a couple of pounds, don't lean over forward try not to sneeze. If the spiders increase significantly or your vision darkens, get thee to a doctor. Being blind will cost you more than any eye doctor bill.

PD: We all have floaters in our vision and most do become absorbed but if you notice them all the time, beware.
