Probably a good thing the hot tub didn't work...

I think a hot tub was one of the possible causes of K-55 getting the flesh eating strep, that took two legs and almost took his life... He was hospitalized a very long time.

They weren't sure but that was one guess.

Yepper, staph infection from an untreated hot tub. Not sure what he was doing in the hot tub!?

It ended up being the Best Western after all. I misunderstood lil sister. Cunningham's were more than accommodating. Saturday, after lunch at Kate's, we took the kids to All 4 Fun (see other thread), Sunday, we all went to church together and went to see the old house we all grew up in. Good Lord that house has shrunk! I still don't know how they raised 7 of us in that house. With one bathroom. And 4 girls. We had a great time and it was good to see everyone.

We had family stay there this weekend and it was not so bad. The worst thing was the bathrooms. They need to replace the tubs and clean the mold from the corner. Otherwise, it was okay. The fun area is really nice and keeps the kids busy while us adults could still have a good time. I would say it is a good investment if you have kids but otherwise maybe go somewhere else if your going to be so picky.

Ouch. I don't consider myself to be "so" picky....I just want to stay in a clean, nonhazardous environment when I pay nice prices for a room. Mold in the bathrooms doesn't sound too thrilling. I'd pay a few bucks to stay in a motel that's well taken care of and doesn't smell funny.....heck, I'm not above a Super 8 - if the rooms are clean and the carpet isn't mildewed.

In my travels, I stay at a small "Mom & Pop" motel in a small town. It is not real new or fancy, but it is clean, the owners are great people, the price is 1/4 of what I pay in larger towns for worse rooms, and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome. It is my favorite place to stay.

I've done that while on vacation - the mom & pop places tend to like to talk to their guests. You learn more about the local area that way than you do from any book. You also get a chance to meet some real personalities. I haven't had a real vacation in years - like when you can just hang out. Drive to the next town or maybe the next town after that and just stay for a day or so.....and just relax. Seems like we're so busy, we only get away when it's so carefully planned it just isn't fun.
