Recently we stayed at the Dodge House, along with some other family members. Needless to say I was not impressed.

When we checked in, I was told the room had been cleaned. When we got to the room, it obviously hadn't been cleaned as the bedding was on the floor, trash had not been removed and the room cards for the last occupant were still lying on the table. We were there all of a minute when the maid came in and bitched me out for being in the room, she wanted to know why I was there and told me I would have to leave. She told me I couldn't have rented the room because it hadn't been cleaned yet. As soon as I told her off, her english got really bad and she said no comprende. yea right.

So I go back downstairs and they give me a different room, with not much of an apology either. ok fine whatever. we get in that room and the toilet doesn't flush and the remote doesn't work. Call downstairs and the desk clerk tells me she will have someone come up when they get time. The maintenance guy does some up pretty quick and fixes it

So we all go down to the pool area and the guys decide they want to play ping pong. They go to the front desk, and ask for paddles and a ping pong ball. They are informed that they have paddles but no ball. The desk clerk says she will ask the owner if they can get some. She goes to ask and the guys can hear him say, NO we're not buying any. Ok great so what's the sense in having a ping pong table??? Finally she finds a ball. ok problem fixed, but with some aggravation.

Our relatives who had stayed there the night before left thier room while it was being cleaned. 3 hours later they still didn't have sheets on the beds and had to ask when they would be getting some. They were told they were being washed. WTH do they have a shortage of sheets? and how long does it take to wash them??

As far as the free continental breakfast, unless you are the first 10 people there you are SOL.

And forget about asking for extra towels, you get 2 when they clean the room and it takes an act of Congress to get more than that.

To say the least it wasn't a very good experience, but we'll mark it up to a lesson learned and not stay there again, or recommend it to any visiting friends or relatives.

I heard a rumor that the hotel was being sold to another owner. The guy that is there now has let the place run down. He built the new LaQuinta, and is supposed to be building a new Hampton. If he lets them go, like he did the Dodge House, I won't be surprised.

When I have had people come to town, I have put them up in the Holiday Inn Express. They have all been happy with it. I also hear that the new Best Western, owned by Bill Cunningham, is a nice place although a bit pricey.

If DC is to become a "Tourist Center", they need to get rid of all of the old, rundown motels, and rebuild some newer ones!

Right...with all the new hotels in town that are pretty nice it will only be a matter of time before the "Dodge House" goes out of business. It's simple math...if you run a crappy business you go under.

Somebody please tell me the Comfort Inn is still nice. It's not too old, as I remember......our family is getting together there over the weekend. We will all be coming from ummmmmm.......(I hope I don't get slammed) more affluent areas than Dodge, so I'd rather we were all in a nice place.
