| Web-posted Mar. 09, 09:38: AM Robbery suspect charged By Eric Swanson Dodge City Daily Globe A Dodge City man who allegedly broke into 47 businesses and robbed a convenience store at gunpoint during a six-week crime spree was charged with one count of aggravated robbery Wednesday in Ford County District Court. Arthur Johnson, 37, made his first court appearance via a closed-circuit television broadcast from the Ford County Detention Center, where he is currently being held. His bond was set at $150,000, and defense attorney Heather Helvie was appointed to represent him. Johnson’s preliminary hearing was tentatively scheduled for 10 a.m. March 16 in front of a magistrate judge. Johnson is accused of robbing the east Love’s Country Store, 400 E. Wyatt Earp Blvd., at about 4 a.m. Saturday morning. He allegedly brandished a handgun at the store clerk before demanding money, which the clerk gave him. Johnson then allegedly left through the back of the store before heading east on foot. Police arrested Johnson early Monday morning in connection with the robbery as well as a recent string of burglaries. The defendant is also suspected of breaking into 47 businesses, churches and government buildings during a crime spree that began about Jan. 26 and continued through last weekend. The burglaries were scattered throughout the city, but most of them occurred in the central part of town. The handgun that Johnson allegedly used to rob the convenience store was supposedly stolen during one of the burglaries, Police Chief John Ball told the Globe on Tuesday. Ford County Attorney John Sauer said Wednesday he is still reviewing the evidence related to the string of burglaries and has not yet filed charges in those cases. http://www.dodgeglobe.com/stories/03...60309001.shtml
