Oh maybe that's what the "Day without Mexicans" is all about. I heard that the "organizers" are not really endorsing that. I also heard on the way home tonight that the day they are looking at for a "peaceful, orgnaized" protest is May 1st. I think that's gonna be the "national" protest day - I know they are trying to change the image by getting American flags. The protests got screwed up by all the Mexican flags - they are tying to revamp the image. Course couple that with May 5th........... Cinco De Mayo is gonna be a bummer this year................ ususally it's so much fun......... now they gotta go get secular on me........... course there is always a thorn in the bush somewhere............. we'll see how all that goes - it will be interesting to watch.

Probably from the news because I heard May 1 for a national work stoppage day.

No, you can bet those places will have a job for them when they return. They're the reason we have the problems we do.

Update

On Tuesday I posted about Shaw Heights Middle School in Colorado and a flag ban. It’s been overturned. Seems Colorado has a law protecting your right to display the American flag that was adopted in 2003 in response to HOA’s restricting homeowners. Please note it protects the display of the United States flag and not a Mexican or any other flag. Way to go Colorado!

I would argue that point with you. First of all "scab" labor is non-union. I don't think either of the plants are unionized....lol. Secondly they are almost always hiring at both plants as with most of the packing houses across the country but I don't see people moving across the country for those jobs. The miners work hard but they make more than $10.00 and hour.

What is the average salary for a coal miner?

The average weekly wage for a miner in Kentucky is $751.30 x 52 weeks = $39,067.60/year divided by 300 days (average) = $130.23/day. The average weekly wage in Martin Co. is $903.76/week x 52 weeks = $46,995/year. See page 14 of the Kentucky Coal Facts Pocket Guide book.

Why would they move here to take a pay cut???

Hi, Army! I guess I'd like to see some folks out of work in the Pennsylvania, Ohio steel mills put to work out here in Kansas. True, they'd miss the cold weather, but they'd do OK. I guess my main question is whether the illegals make less than the legal workers? Cuz if the illegal employers don't pay the illegals as much (because they can get by with it if they wanted), then there's really no reason for them to clean up their act.
