From my perspective, the term "liberal" paints with wide stroke and requires a furthur defining modifier. Liberals come in many types: social, political, economic, financial, etc. As do conservatives, and many folks embrace some stated positions of both.
Throughout our 200 odd years of history as a nation, the rise and demise of many social, political and economic factions has left thier mark on this strange and wonderful beast we call "society", ALL did some good, and ALL brought some counter productive changes, and we are a mear pup, relative to other cultures extant on this spinning rock we call home.
Human nature being what it is, we, as a nation, will continue to stumble along. The "haves" will wield power, real or percieved, and the "have not's" will continue to bitch about it. Neither group always has the vision to act for the "greater common good" what ever that is.
Political polarization will keep the pot boiling, heated by the ever vacillating mood of the print and electronic media and the relative ignorance of the masses, but the stew will never be done cookin'.
I try to apply logical thought and "cause and effect" reasoning to to the psyco babbel presented in the media each day, is it any wonder my head hurts? My chosen antidote for the pain is SPEED, a vacuum cleaner for the mind, no room for debate at 200 MPH. RED |
