Speak Out to WalMart CEO

If you are not pleased at the way WalMart treats its workers, as far as wages at or near the poverty level, inadequate health care coverage and encouraging employees to go on Medicare. Sign this petition online.

So what do you want...Walmart to unionize and a door greeter demand 25 bucks an hour?

Starting pay at walmart is above minimum wage. If you're worried about how much they get paid, then have the fed raise the minimum. But you know as well, if they gave every employee a raise, then their prices would start going up, then everyone would complain that thier prices are to high. Start going somewhere else, revenue goes down, they start laying off employees, start closing stores, and when it's all said and done, there'll be 4200+ large, empty buildings, and 1,600,000 people out of work.

What about the business right here that went empty because of the low prices Walmart can give because they don't pay a fair wage? Are you forgeting the empty Gibson's store, the empty Chaffin Distribution Center, the Alco store that closed, plus numerous other small businesses in downtown Dodge that couldn't compete with WalMart?

I kinda remember Alco. I thought they closed when Gibson's built a bigger building. I thought they were down for the count before Wal Mart got there, but I could be wrong. I understand that most of us don't like the Wally World mentality, but the fact is, their business practices hold prices down in rural communities. I don't personally like to shop there because I can't think straight with the various foreign languages being spoken and babies and young children crying and screaming. But I don't see much of a statement being made by my withholding my spending there. Doesn't seem to bother them one iota.

Nebraska Furniture Mart is the same sort of thing. Good marketing program. Keep services and prices low. Some people don't care about the services - they just want the low prices. Well, they've run most other furniture stores in the metro out. They haven't raised their prices (yet), their customer service still sucks. I will venture out there on occasion. But only if I know what I'm going for and I kinda have an idea where it is in the store.

So their (Wally's and NFM)running other businesses out is a sign of the times and the economy. People would probably rather shop elsewhere, but have to shop at Wal Mart because it's a one-stop shopping trip and because some of the prices are lower. Low enough to affect the budget. Just like Eckles and some of the high-end clothing stores that used to be downtown. All the services are great and the brands are fantastic. But the money just isn't there right now.

We can blame it all on Wally's if we want, but you have to concede it's a very wise marketing plan. And that's about the gist of it.

Then you must have a giant 'X' on your back and they all think you're a secret shopper. I've wandered around in there for hours, on weekdays when they're not busy and tried to look for somebody to help me. 'big sigh' I'm just not a good shopper, I guess. I don't like crowds and I don't like to be treated as if I'm not always right, ya know?

from www.walmartfacts.com

Quote:
The average wage for regular full-time hourly associates in Kansas is $9.86 per hour (Wal-Mart Discount Stores, Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets). Additionally, associates are eligible for performance-based bonuses.

I wish I made that much. I get to move furniture, and big screen tv's all day. They get to stand around and pass items over the scanner, and stock shelves.

And did you ever think it might be the community of Dodge that is the problem? Up here, we're roughly 4 times the size of Dodge, but, we have 2 Wal-mart SuperCenters, 8 Dillon's stores with at least 3 of them are superstores, 1 IGA, 2 KMart's, 1 Target, 4 Dollar Generals, 4 Price Choppers, and 18 other small grocers.

Dodge has 1 walmart, 2 dillons, 2 Dollar Generals, 1 Dollar Tree, and 1 Heartland Foods/homeland. Please correct me if I missed any. But that breaks down to, 1 store for every 3571 people, for Dodge, and 1 for every 3050 people here. Dodge has always had a problem keeping businesses in town, whether it's a large national retailer/resturant, or the small business, family owned retailer/restuarant.

Thumbs down Wally World

Did anyone watch The Apprentice tonight? The teams had to set up a store display to sell microsofts new game box, but the one thing they didn't get right was that the store didn't have any illegals and thier kids running around screeming. I want to go to that store.
