I agree with nolongerinradioguy. Why badmouth dodge. Pootsy my question for you is, why do you hate dodge so much. You started a thread earlier questioning why people go to bad habits. In an even earlier thread that you started you mentioned that you were moving out of dodge and were ecstatic about it. Why do you gotta rain on dodge? It's apparent you don't like dodge, whoop di doo. You left, end of story.

Why do i live in dodge? I was born here. My family lives here. I grew up here. All of my past has happened in dodge. Regardless of if there is, or ever was, anything to do in this town all my fondest memories are here. My friends that i grew up with are from here. Went throught the public school system here and i am proud to say i am from Dodge. People may bad mouth the district but we do have some brilliant teachers here in dodge. Many of those teachers are former students of dodge city as well. My roots are here. When i go off to college i will not forget my past. I hope to raise a family here when i am older and i plan on being buried at maple grove. I love this town, it's a part of me.

Now my question to you...What has dodge done to you for you to hate it?

I live here because I like it! I chose to come to Dodge. I grew up in a small (1000 people) town about 2 hours from here. I had family that lived here we would visit. Once I was done with college, I decided that Dodge seemed like a great place to raise my daughter. I met a wonderful man here and we got married. Do I ever regret moving here, not very often. Every place has it problems. When they set up the perfect town that is able to please everyone, I will stay here. It will never happen.

The only way you can be happy is to make yourself be. I encounter tourists and locals everyday in my job. It would amaze many of you to hear all the positive things that are said about our town. If there is something going on you don't like, work to change it.

Sorry, I will climb off my soapbox now and get to work.

All I asked is why do you live in Dodge City?? I hear alot of bitching about it, about things that the commisioners do, the things the chamber does, the meat packing plants, ect..ect...ect.......I want to ask all of you why you live there??

I loved Dodge myself Drifter and I will never forget the past, however there is no opportunity there in my opinion, for me anyways. I was born and raised there and wasn't always on the best bahavior, BUT I was always a good person and did anything for anybody, I guess my biggest bitch is has nothing to do with Dodge City, but with people in general...NEGATIVE PEOPLE SUCK AND JUST BECAUSE THEY DID THAT AND THIS IN THEIR PAST DOESN'T MEAN THEY DO IT NOW!!!

Dodge City has alot of negativity and it brings me down. People are really judgemental and never look at the good in people, they always look at that bad. Some of the most thriving businesses in Dodge are ran by negative, judgemental people and that really scares me. That Drifter is why I asked that question about Bad Habits. JAG also comes to mind.

But on the bright side I have met some really cool down to earth people in DC too. Dodge city has it ups and downs but more downs if you ask me.

I don't. I live close enough to work here though. Good job durring the day, then drive to home in the evening, where kids get good school, good friends, and we all get good community where everybody smiles and waves.

For those of us that know that no place is perfect, we can be content here and maybe even *gasp* WORK to try to make it a nicer place to live instead of bitching about how bad it is.
It's not about bad mouthing a certain city or whatever but like some of the other posts have said....Dodge is going down hill. I suppose if I were FROM here I may try to make it a nicer place to live but I'm not and the people that have tried to make it nicer are failing. *according to what I read on the boards. It seems by all of the reading I do that no one in this town can come together and do anything for the good of the city or the people. If Dodge is so great what direction is it going in? What are some positives about the city? LG said they have some great teachers here and I agree but then again so do most places. Although some of the teachers are great, the schools aren't. Over 50% of the students fail to meet the minimum reading and math requirements at the basic level. I like some of the people I have met here and there is positives...I have a lot of fun here w/ my friends but in the overall picture why would anyone move here?????

I agree with ya...I thought I was in tall cotton when I was in DC. Then I moved west and was in even tall-er cotton! Now I've moved as far northeast as you can get and still stay in the state and I love it even more. I think if you're happy with what you're doing (professionally), you have good friends around you and your family life is happy, you can be reasonably satisfied almost anywhere. I still b____ and moan about where I live from time to time, but I don't think I'd be any happier anywhere else.

I have lived in a few different places being affilitated with the military. One can make the best of any situation they are put in. I moved to Dodge (voluntarily) because I thought it would be a neat place to live for a couple of years. In my opinion (and that's just my opinion and probably not worth too much) the things a city should be graded on are....schools, taxes, crime, the direction of the city, job availability and the types of jobs available and if you are buying a house the housing market to include new houses being built. You can also throw air and water quality in there if you want. I'm not saying Dodge doesn't have friendly people because there are some of the friendliest I have met here and that's great. There are some good things about Dodge IE: Boot Hill but even that is running on borrowed time. I ask why would a family with a choice of where they move to choose Dodge? I retire in about 14 months and can move to just about anywhere I want. Being in that position what would put Dodge on the list of places I would want to move? When someone asks why not dodge they should ask...why Dodge? I can't answer that.....
