| I mean they do have talent just nothing, other than the drummer, really impressed me as being special. I don't have a problem with trash metal but as with most new music styles since the 80's there just doesn't seem to be a focus on skill. Where are the Eddie VanHalen's and Joe Satriani's(sp) for the last decade and a half? Where are the Eagles or Lynyrd Skynyrd's for the last decade and a half? I haven't seen any real musical talent, musician wise, in a long time. Todays music strikes me as nothing more than techno crap. Bands trying to be somebody they're not by their "unique sound" rather than actual musical talent. To play todays music it takes 90% the right equipment and 10% talent.

| 90%? Wow First there is no doubt you were an excellent guitarist. Second , I don't know what you listen too, but 10% is a very big stretch. Even for New Country- Try playing some Hot Apple Pie - HillBilly in peticular. To an extent you are correct, but 10 years ago. Look at GreenDay and most of those bands that do not even have a lead guitarist. Even those songs take a hell of lot more talent than 10%. Not trying to argue, but I definitly disagree with that call. If you are just talking Thrash Metal, then I may agree with you more. Not Much talent in only knowing 3 bar chords and having a heavy pick to thrash those 3 chords to death with no finesse. Could it be you are very out of touch with todays music scene. Have you even heard of Hot Apple Pie? If you say no, then I won't even state the obvious. ![]() Poots - Isn't there a whole cluster of guys that sound like him? I picture the skit from Mad T.V. where all these singers (e.t. Pearl Jam, ect..) that sound the same come in singing about how they were the first to sound like that. hehe Last edited by Zeb; 07-31-2006 at 10:12 AM.. |

| Yup I am talking about thrash metal. Mmmm I love hot apple pie! Oh you mean a band named Hot Apple Pie? Wasn't that a band from the 60's? Ya I know I'm out of touch, but over the years I have come to realize there is certain musical criteria that separates the cream from the brew. There are also ways to tell that the listening crowd can identify this skill set. Cross-overs. And no not the one on the back of your speakers. ![]() When thrash metal makes the grade you have the cross-over to top 40. The right combination of ALL talents in a band, in most cases, produces this phenomenon. I'll admit 90% was a bit off the mark because they clearly wouldn't be where they are with out some talent. Unless they just have connections.

| It could well be, in fact most likely, that there are names well known in the music industry for their musical talent. It's just where are the Getty Lee's of today? How long has it been since a bass player was so talented people, not even in music, recognize the name? I started playing pop in the 60's like CCR, and no not Cross Canadian Ragweed, then country and rock in the 70's and metal in the 80's. Today I enjoy listening to Up around the bend just as well as Dr Feel good. I don't listen to country simply because it seems so depressing. All the songs seem to be about getting drunk cause your life sux, your girlfriend run off or your favorite dog died. I have a really tough time even mentioning Rap when talking about music. I think Rap is more poetry with accompaniment. And that being polite. I'm a metal-head. For me metal has some of the greatest challenges in the music industry. I would say thats probably why some of the greatest names come from a metal background. I'm tough on these guys because they got a tough road ahead. Much tougher than any other type in my opinion. I wish them luck. They're gonna need it.

| "Where are the Eddie VanHalen's and Joe Satriani's" i doubt you spend much time looking through the metal scene for a good guitarist. they are there. they will never make it to the top 40 right now because americans are dumb and like American Idol crap. and if not that you probably like country, and if not that then you're old and like to bitch about how great bands used to be. and all new metal isn't thrash metal. you have your hardcore, your post-hardcore, your post rock, your death metal, black metal, goth metal, melodic death metal, metal core, viking metal...must i continue? i dont even like thrash metal Last edited by cky; 07-31-2006 at 11:11 AM.. |

I'm sure you're right there are some real talented musicians to be heard and they're probably considered music gods in their own playground. I've just not heard any as of yet. I like Nickleback but then nothing special as far as phenomenal musicians.
