A 5 cent whore followed by a 10 cent cigar would make a drover's night.

What this town needs is a good 10 cent cigar.

Better hurry. You might not be able to smoke it soon.

I did some serious pokin' round for "m&b" thinking it might have been a railroad; and there is/was but it was a shortline in Florida... during the 1870s. I also found a clipping of a fellow named "Mabry" who traveled from Texas to Dodge during that era and found another Mabry connected to the M&B; but I couldn't put them together.

I'll stick with the bawdy house theory.

Lurker it very well could also be something other than a saloon, but when Detector was telling me about the token it reminded me of some old saloon tokens I had seen. Detector another thought if it does say trade what about an old trading post have you done any research on something like that?

These "good for" trade tokens are pretty common. They were generally given out by local merchants, including brothels, as change. As I said they are known as Good For tokens and can be very valuable. There were companies that produced these good for tokens for the merchants so while there may be records of them, no actual tokens remain. Or maybe just the one making it very valuable.

Trying to document where it came from is the hard part. I'll get a better blowup of the front but to me it looks as though it's N & B not M & B

Maybe "good for in trade" meant it is not true tender. Perhaps it was a grocery store or sumthin - that if ya purchased enough from a merchant he gave you a token - kinda like a "coupon". My serious side says "in trade" referred to not being able to put the token on your outstanding bill. I would think you need to purchase something new to use it. Just another train of thought.

My fun side says......... BROTHEL
