Dodge Board "Adopt a family"

Everyone may think this is dumb but here's an idea. Most of the people on here have the means to help others and we do and have in the past. We do something like this in the Army. What does eveyone (or anyone) think about coming up with a couple local families and providing them with the stuff to make a Thanksgiving dinner ect from the Dodge Board? I would personally buy the Turkey. I know someone here knows of at least ONE family that could use this. Dumb idea? If this works we could do the same thing for a family at Christmas and do the toy thing for their crumbsnatchers...

This is a wonderful idea!!

I just talked to a family member that is associated with the Crisis Center. She said she could work us up a hand-picked list of needy families, (not just people looking for hadouts) and she could even distrubute the turkeys if we wanted. And of course if anyone else knows of a needy family we can add them to the list.

Im in for a couple turkeys!

I was assured they would be hand picked and sincerely needy families. Let's keep in mind that the Crisis Center does not always know about all the needy families so if anyone else has personal knowledge of a situation, they should PM me, Army, or the admin and we'll be sure to pass it along.

I am in for $50. Where do we send it, or maybe take it to AOO? Thanks.

Last year the wife and I had all the widows and widowers in the surrounding few blocks and had 12 over last year. It was the coolest feeling to have these older people tell us that they hadn't been to a family gathering in 20 years. Hope to have them all back this year.

Let us know where to take the fifty

comments?

Anyone know Terri Trent? She works as the "child in need of care" enforcement at the SRS, volunteers for the Crisis Center, ST Francis board, police axillary and she has done these kinds of charities in the past. She is in-the-know when it comes to families that need help as she deals with them on a daily basis. She is also very good about ascertaining the truly needy. She is my sister in law and is very trustworthy. What do you all think about having her help us with finding the families and distributing the turkeys? She said she would prefer getting the turkeys but would would be willing to go buy the stuff from whatever cash is donated. She would even provide us with an accounting for anything received. Comments, Suggestions? Motion, second?
