I'd like to hear more about the ghostly stuff!!!!
The deed on the house says either 1863 or 1864 I can't remember but in either case thats a few years before Dodge City. In it's past it has been a courthouse and a holding location for prisoners. Rumor has it that it was used during the civil war as a location where information was passed. It is said to have a tunnel that led from the basement to a secret room with an escape tunnel leading near where the old lumber yard was on 3rd.

The last owner was a jeweler. His grandson, who sold the house, claimed there was a bag of diamonds hidden somewhere in the basement. As a kid he remembers his granddad would bring out a tobacco bag of diamonds from somewhere in the basement to show him. After he died they looked for the diamonds but never did find them. He told us if we were to ever find them we could keep them but he would like to see them one more time. Hum?

Anyway, to the spooky stuff.

There are so many stories to tell about strange happenings in this house it's hard to pick one, but here is one of my favorites.

Years ago some neighbor kids had gone down in the basement while the owners were not home. Later the kids ran home screaming at the top of their lungs obviously scared half to death. They told their parents that while in the basement some old man came out from behind the boiler, it still had the old coal burning furnace that had been converted to natural gas, a very creepy look device, this old man they described as small hunched over with white hair and beard.

The kids parents were pretty pissed thinking one of us had scared the b'jeebus out of their kids and didn't think it was very nice. They approached the owners, with the kids, and the owners explained there was no one at home at the time the kids were in the basement. The kids once again described the scary old man they encountered from behind the furnace.

The story was all but forgotten for a time until one day the grandson that sold the house came by. They asked about the old owner, because of the many strange things happening, and the grandson promised to bring over a picture. A week or so later the grandson arrived with a picture of the last owner, not long before he died, and you guessed it. He was a small old man with white hair and beard. The kids claimed it was the man they saw in the basement.

Yes I do have history with this house. I personally have experienced some very strange events. From the very first day of working on it, we ALL experienced what was to become a normality at that house.

We were all working in the back yard when my dad noticed someone in the upstairs window looking out at us. He looked around and saw we were all outside and thought someone was in the house that shouldn't be. He asked us who is that and we all looked but had no idea so we all ran into the house expecting to catch a stranger.

There was not time for anyone to come down the stairs and evade the rush of people, but when we got there, there was no one. We just looked at each other in disbelief, and verified that we all had seen someone looking out that window.

Here is another story I get a kick out of.

An Ant came down to visit one day while everyone was at work. She was told to make herself at home until they got home. She says she watched some TV in the TV room for a bit then decided to read a book. She went out to the living room turned on the lamp and read for about 20-30 minutes. She got tired of reading and went back to watch the television.

My parents got home and after visiting for awhile she decided to read some more in her book. She sat down on the couch where she had been before and tried to turn on the lamp. After several tries she was told there was no bulb in that lamp. My Ant freaked and swore to God she read her book by that lamp not more than an hour ago. She was told that was impossible because not only has there never been a bulb in it, there is no power plug to plug it in with.

To this day my Ant will not spend the night in that house.

I couldn't stand it. I drove by....and nope, it's not the house I thought BUT it is a house I have heard stories about. One is that the doors are always open, even in winter. Just a window storm door....because everytime someone would close a door, something would bang it back open!

Is that one true detector???

Oh, and...someone lives there....are they afraid?

I drove by the Gingerbread house's house today and it looked delicious.

Incidentally, I didn't see no big ugly truck in front of the Gingerbread house's house......... I did see a big ugly truck across the street. Too ugly to even be a taco wagon.

I just visited the house. My wifey's family is in town and we went by to see it. D's mother was kind enough to let us come in and look at it up close. Detctor is correct....pictures do not EVEN begin to do it any justice. If you think the pictures are awesome you HAVE to go see it in person. It's incredible and the detail is awesome. Turns out Detector that my Wifey's Grandmother used to work with your Mother. They know each other! LOL

happy Thanksgiving to all!

Small world!

She has been making these houses since I was youngly. The rest of the house should be aglow tonight. Turkey day is the day the family gathers to fest and then hang Christmas lights.
