I think, if promoted right it could work.

Also the internet needs to be hit hard promoting Dodge.

All this needs to be done quickly because not many people left who remember the old T.V. show. Alot of history and old west nastalgia is being forgot in favor of the bright lights and lure of casinos.
Actually that is a pretty good idea. I would take out "include dinner at the Dodge House" (Marchel Ranch) because it's substandard at best but they could go to Cowtown! Will their be an English to Spanish dictionary included in the package? He heh he.

New Idea For Dc

Since I been out of town for the holidays, I asked my family what they would like to see in Dodge!
1) Focus on what we have at hand--Boothill-they would like to see the old Dodge in the 1800. Gambling at the salon, drinking hard liquor and beer.
2) Round up with cattle and sleeing on the ground, eating wagon food.
We could advertise during the winter months, to see how many would
sign w/ a flat fee and book several of these activities and don't
keep it local but all over the Ks area.
3) Lets keep Boothill running. I know I would work FREE, giving my time
to help get Boothill running.l IF everyone donate a few hrs a day
that would save some money
4) And for the little ones by my side, Cowboys and Indian figting
5) We need to market what we have, not building and paying high taxes
on things we don't need in DC. REMEMBER USE WHAT WE HAVE,
NOT WHAT THE CONTROLING BIGWIG WANT--THEY DON'T KNOW
CR*P

PIA,

I agree 110% about using what we all ready have, and not taxing in order to build things we really don't need! I know alot of people will disagree with me but we do have some attractions in Dodge for visitors.

Some of the people who disagree are people who have lived here for some time.

You're 100% right on the elbow grease, that plus some remodeling. Clean up and modernize the stuff along Wyatt Earp unsing some of those tax collections to offer low interest financing/grants to clean up lots and but a new front on the stuff lining the street.

Whoever's on the new Bored of Advisors needs to take a cue given to us by HollyWierd:
Quote:
Ellen Griswold: Clark, let's just skip the house of mud. I think Dodge City was enough for one day. Besides, Catherine and Eddie are expecting us.

Clark: It's living history Ellen. But if you'd rather see your cousins it's okay by me. Personally I'd rather see a pile of mud than Eddie.
No quote from "National Lampoon's VACATION" is complete without these classics:

Quote:
Rusty Griswold: That was a crummy Wyatt Earp dad. He was wearing jogging shoes.

Clark: They used to Rusty.

.........................

[Delivering the eulogy for Aunt Edna, flatly]
Clark: O God, ease our suffering in this, our moment of great dispair. Yea, admit this kind and decent woman into thy arms of thine heavenly area, up there. And Moab, he lay us upon the band of the Canaanites, and yea, though the Hindus speak of karma, I implore you: give her a break.

Ellen Griswold: Clark...

Clark: Honey, I'm not an ordained minister; I'm doing my best.

.........................

Cousin Vicki: I'm going steady, and I French kiss.

Audrey Griswold: So? Everybody does that.

Cousin Vicki: Yeah, but Daddy says I'm the best......

Ah, Dodge. If you really, REALLY wanna make Dodge the tourist trap that would win the west, then you are going to have to expand the boothill complex into more than just a few buldings on a half-a-block hidden behind a privacy fence. If you wanna get really nuts, then instead of keeping it there in the middle of the commerical district, try moving the ENTIRE historic complex out to either the west or east of town. (Whichever smells better.) Then you could build it into a mulit block mock-up of the 1880's version of Dodge. And hey, if you want a casino, then build one, 1880's style. Huge and grand, but keep it true to the style of the old west. Put a bank in there, and then rob it 4 times a day. Hire KNOWLEDGEABLE folks to walk around this complex in 1880's attire and have gunfights, randomly. Have a marshal and a jail. Have stage coach rides, and have them ride through open prarie. Have an old "tyme" ice cream parlor, homemade ice cream all summer long. People who come to Dodge to see the old west are getting about a block of empty buildings, a tiny museum and a stage coach ride through the middle of a MODERN southwest Kansas town. They don't spend much money in town, because there is not much to stick around for. Food, gas, and thats about it. Give them something worth staying for.
