I happened upon 19 Mennonite men from Greensburg who came to Dodge just to help wherever they could.... I'm sure there were more.

It blows my mind how some will extend their hand (palm up and open) while only wanting money with a promise to help others.... like the google ad I saw on the top of this thread offering an opportunity to "make your donation today" to help rebuild lives and property in hurricane areas. It linked to the 'BushClintonKatrinaFund'.org.

This same thing was posted on the Wichita Eagle Blog and received this comment.

Sollie--

I guess you missed the news last night showing National Guard helicopters choppering in giant hay bales to feed snowbound livestock.

Or the dairy farmer who has to run tons of milk into the storm drain because the milk truck can't make it . . . fortunately, 90 percent of his losses are covered.

Western ranchers and farmers are already so heavily subsidized by taxpayers, it's hard to know where gov't help ends and private enterprise starts . . .

And all the wonderful things listed as human compassion in this forward are good deeds that should be recognized. I'd be willing to bet that with some diggin you'd find similar things in other disasters you're belittling.

We're all in the same boat unless you're very close to Canada (49 degrees North Latitude).
