Is it illegal for me loan you a cd to listen to after I buy it? >>>>>>

No but your talking about copying it and giving it away. Not the same thing.

What if I want to back up that cd on my computer? >>>>>>>

This is legal (and why I said wordy covered his bases). You cant buy it and copy it to all kinds of pc's you don't even own. Especially Trading with other peps. Remember Napster and Kazza?

Hey if I want to back up all of my music what would be the easiest, most economical way to do it?

MP3? I agree.

or are you asking about programs?

I use the free ripper with MusicMatch Jukebox. But there are tons of rippers out there.

Sorry If I offended anyone , but as you can tell from my icon that I deplore music theives. If the artist want's to give away his product then it's different from those artists that DO NOT wish to give their hard earned work away or have it stolen.
Some get into the music business for fun, others it is a business and all about money. I have done both and understand both sides.

I want to take all of my music I have in I Tunes and I want to put them on something outside of my computer in case it crashes. It would take me a long time to rebuild my collection.

Buy a seperate external USB Hard Drive is what I have done. Then you can drag and drop or copy files to the external. That drive can be taken with you just about anywhere, but you would need a PC to hear anything.

DVD burner - Get a DVD writer and it will hold a huge amount of songs Store the dvd's so they won't get scratched.

I actually have done both of these with the library of Karaoke songs I had accumulated fron CDG collection.

DVD burner at wallyworld is about 40 bucks I think for their cheapest re-writer.

I have no experience with Ipods but I have an FM/MP3 player thumb drive. Of course they vary with storage size. FM can't pick up much in this area so it is worthless. The MP3 player is nice tho.

You know, if you go into the settings under tools>options>rip music and set it up for MP3 at 192 then Windows media player makes a great file ripper. You should try not to let iTunes re-write all your MP3's as ACC files if you can help it.

The answer is yes to both questions and not "all that much". I have two of my cars set up for direct ipod connections into the stereo and one set up to use an FM transmission. The Direct connections were in the $150 range, one was car specific via the dealer, the other an after market interface. If one has a volkswagon product with an auxillary port installed it's as simple has plugging in a small wire that radio shack sells for $5.00.
The FM connection came from the Apple store and it was relatively inexpensive. Target, Radio Shack, Walmart, et al all carry something these days.

Before Christmas, iPod Nano's could be had in Indianapolis for $100. Typically they start around $150 and move up from there, I have one like Bubba's and it was $249. It includes computer interface cable and headphones. You go out to Apple's site and download iTunes to manage it. Internal stuff like speaker connections run the gamut for your wallet. I did not try to connect mine to my older stereo but instead bought a $79 JBL docking station that sounds just fine.

You can copy your cd's that you already own, many sites have "free" downloads and of course there are places like iTunes where you can download songs for a price.
