I didn't say you were naive, I said the comment was naive. Young lady, if I have learned anything on this board about anyone here, it's you're not naive.

Actually the Klan was well known for the fear and other tactics used against others, primarily blacks in the south. I can assure you there are many people in the south that still think it is something to be proud of and be part of. It got bankrupted because some members tried one too many stupid things and got caught.

These things are like government programs, you can't kill them.

Can ANYONE tell me something that is the same in 2007 as it was in 1774???? Anyone??? I am very welcome to anything at this point....: |
Not that I normally agree with the Highway but I think he said it fairly well. The dreams and desires of 1774 led to 1776 which led to the revolutionary war and the articles of confederation which led to the current constitution. The constitution as developed is a continuously evolving document. When written-women couldn't vote and men could own other men. Society and it's thinking changed and the document changed with it. England has been at this longer than us and it has not been perfect there. Even in 1787, it took several years for some of the original 13 colonies to ratify the document and join up.,
The conditions were right back then for the US to *stick*. A large part of it, IMO, was the predominately English culture. Fast forward to the latter part of the 20th century when the totallitarian communist government of the USSR collapsed and they began their expirement with capitalism. Many people who didn't like the communist rule could not get used to being in a capitalist society and openly wished for a return of the old regime. Or even more recently, the former Yugoslavia and even Iraq. When presented a chance (regardless where one lies on the handling of those areas), the peoples' cultures were such that generations of hatred and mistrust going back to the beginning of recorded time has helped to keep those groups from working together for the public good to form a country. We may have our minority clubs and to the white folks, it may seem wierd. But it could be a lot worse and it is elsewhere.

No you don't, the late 70's was the disco era, Liesure suits, platform shoes, wide ties and some godawful music. The early 70's were ok as long as you weren't in Vietnam, lived in Watts, and went to school at Kent State. The music was better, 1973 gave us Quadraphenia, Aqualung, Brain Salad Surgery, the Dark Side of the Moon, the Eagles and some great dope. I don't remember much about 74, and 75

. I woke up in 1976 only to graduate high school and decided putting on roofs in Florida during the summer was not fun so I cut my hair and started studying.
Actuarily speaking, you;re got 60+ years left to make a mark for the future, grab it and do it. And keep having fun while you're doing it too.
