Doctor rant

JR’s day at the doctor reminded me of why I don’t like doctors.

Quote:
Have you ever got that call from the doctor’s office that goes “The doctor wants to see you”? WTF? Is business slow or something? What other service provider thinks that they can just demand that you interrupt you life and come in so they can bill you? I actually had a call once saying that my insurance company wanted me to come in for a blood test. After informing the young lady that I had changed doctors with my insurance over a year before she said she would put that in my chart. Yeah, right. How about this? If the doctor wants to see me let them make an appointment to come by my office at my convenience and they can pay me.

Doctors prescribe dangerous drugs everyday. You can’t buy these over the counter because they’re dangerous drugs that can kill you if used improperly. That’s why only a licensed professional is allowed to authorize the use of these potentially lethal drugs. Can you trust your doctor to administer this responsibility wisely? Ever hade a prescription that caused really bad side effects? Ever had the doctor tell you that it’s just all in your head and just keep taking the drug? If you take a drug and have pain and then stop taking the drug and the pain goes away, it’s the damn drug! This ain’t rocket science here. I had a former coworker that was having trouble walking and when I ask he said it was the cholesterol drug causing him a lot of pain. I ask why he didn’t stop taking it and he said if didn’t take it he was going to die. Maybe his doctor should be selling used cars.

Here’s the real irony of prescriptions. Did you ever need a pain killer? Doctors do stuff that hurts you all the time but let you ask for a drug to numb the pain and all of a sudden they get all responsible and don’t want to let you have any of the really good stuff and only ration out a little of the lesser stuff so you don’t hurt yourself with it. For Christ’s sake I’m an adult and can go buy a case of Scotch to kill all of my pain or simply not care about it. Of course then they can claim that you’re an alcoholic and recommend treatment for that too.

I’ve come up with what I call the “Box Theory” on how medicine is practiced. The “Box” is defined by all of the medical guidelines like blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and weight and so on. These guidelines are almost imposable for most normal folks to achieve and therefore necessary to be treated by, you guessed it, a doctor and every kind of drug known to man. They have assured a captive customer base that has been conditioned over the years to do what the doctor tells you without question. Throw in the fact that doctors have made a lot of screw-up’s and become the target of greedy lawyers looking for the big score. In their defense they fall back on “The Box”. To protect themselves from lawsuits doctors want you to fit into The Box so they can claim that they gave you the best possible care and they will force you to conform no matter how much it hurts. And unlike a former President they don’t feel your pain. The guidelines have become mandates to be met at any cost. There are drugs to lower your blood pressure, lower your cholesterol, lower your weight, lower your stress and lower your bank account. If you have a side effect they give you another drug for that too. Then when you hurt all over and can’t think anymore you get told that you’re just getting old and to get used to it. To make sure that you are taking all of those drugs you get that call from the doctor’s office that goes “The doctor wants to see you.”

There was a time when the Doctor's bag contained morphine, coke (the real thing) and concoctions laced with opium.

Their patients didn't get well; but they surely felt better while dying....

People have to ask questions and educate themselves just like if they are shopping. It's buyer beware and patient beware. Sometimes it takes awhile for folks to realize they have control of thier care - once they get that idea and use it - things usually go somewhat better than before.

Seeing that quote reminds me of my grandmother. For years, the docs have been giving her high blood pressure meds. Her blood pressure is now at 92! An 80 year old woman walking around with BP at 92! Lately, she's been falling down. I told her to talk with her doc and see if they could possibly do something about the low BP. Thank God she hasn't broke anything yet!

I would have to live under a bridge if I filled all the scrips that have been given to me....

I take 2 .... one for BP... one that keeps me from going Postal..LOL and I order those online from Canada.... can't afford it here..

But ask for a pain killer ...for a fall I had on water and tile.... and you would think I was a junkie the look that I got ...so he told me to buy some Tylenol Hell ...I could have done that without him...So I paid him by check...went home .... got online ...put stop payment on check ...sent a letter to him to explain why.... NO SERVICE ...NO MONEY...I got a letter back that it would be turned over to the County Attorney.... that was a year ago.... I still have no papers from the CA...
If I have to pay it later ...fine with me.... at least I got to express myself...

But you're just paying a fair market value for all the R&D and testing they had to do to get it to you.
