Thanks to DB

I am beginning to learn to research some things I get in my email... wtf took me so long ??????.....I dunno....maybe it was the great members of this board...that have some really good advise and make great arguments for just about any issue...So no matter what ... I think there is a great diversity here at DB and I appreciate all of you.....OK ...ENOUGH BROWN NOSING ...LOL

I admit now I am pretty gullible and naive (aoo ...) when it comes to trusting folks.

I came from the time of handshake was as good as a signed document ....and I guess I have that ingrained into my personality...so its very hard to question things.... I am learning slowly ...not quite there yet but I have hope...LOL

I got this in my email awhile back and really had no inclination to check it out ...its such a minor deal...but today I also got a letter re/American Oil Pension....(A.O.P.) usually I never open anything like this and send it to spam...however since it was from TownHall.com and being bored as hell ...I opened it...THEN I RESEARCHED IT ....its BS

To make a long story short...If something this minor can fool you...stay on top of things.....not easy , but very important

I really believed this :

I usually don't believe anything I read without research. But, I fell for one a few weeks ago. It was just so touching that I believed it out of compassion.

I received 6-8 pictures of animals that were saved after the Greensburg Tornado. A touching story. Beautiful photos of scared, battered and tired dogs and a cat being rescued.

I hardly EVER forward stuff like that. I don't care if I will received bad luck in 10 minutes if I don't forward things!!

Well, I sent the email to many of my animal loving friends. My Aunt from KC wrote me back telling me that the story is great and pictures were tear-jerking. And, also, that she received the pictures and story also (with a few minor changes), but just after Hurricane Katrina.

It was still a beautiful story and pictures, but I find that most on the 'net is fiction or at least edited many times by who knows whom.

Good point weezie! I think everyone should learn how to use snopes.com. I get several junk emails per day from friends and family members that feel I need to be informed about every scam, patriotic boycott, cancer causing sweetners, chain letters ...on and on and on...

Folks, It's real simple......if it tells you yer rich, it's fake!
If it tells you to forward it to everyone on your address book, it's fake!
If it tells you to login into your account and then provides you a link, it's fake!

Most of all, before you click on forward, check it on snopes!!!

One other piece of email etiquette...
Don't forward as attachment, just forward and take out all the >>>>>>

I refuse to read posts or emails that the poster/sender feels is not worth cleaning up.

Yes...it helps to read everything and be skeptical. I get alot of fake Ebay emails that are probably people phishing for my user and password.

Yeah, Army, hubby gets a lot of email from "Ebay" that tells him his account has been used by someone else and he is to log in and check the activity. The funny thing is......he doesn't have an Ebay account. I do!

The same goes for some of the so-called "true" political stories about how horrible someone on the other side of the political spectrum is. I know it's comforting to read something that confirms one's inner feeling about an opponent. I just wish I could read something telling me why I should vote for so-and-so because of what he or she will do to help my life; not all the hand-wringing "fear-mongering" about the opposition. Yeah, well good luck with that.
