Illegal immigrants soon to be obsolete

Who’s going to do all those jobs that folks don’t want to do? The simple answer is robots. Much like the invention of the cotton gin set in motion economics that was going to make slavery cost prohibitive robots will soon be doing many of the manual labor jobs that are currently being done by undereducated workers.

Quote:
Japan is a step closer to having an ideal worker who won't complain in torrential rain or on slippery floors as a company unveiled a next-generation humanoid Thursday….

….Kawada Industries said the company hoped eventually to put the HRP-3 Promet Mk-II to commercial use.

Project manager Takakatsu Isozumi said the company wanted to target clients such as construction contractors by 2010, with each robot costing around 15 million yen (120,000 dollars) each.

"We want to increase the actions that this robot can do at construction sites, such as driving construction vehicles," he said.

Japan leads the world's robotic industries in fields ranging from manufacturing to entertainment and security. Last week Mitsubishi Heavy Industries said it would start renting out humanoids to staff front desks at offices and hospitals.

Now if we can just train the little robots to pick fruit. Or maybe just build special fruit picking robots.

Serious question time. What’s going to happen to 20 million illegals with amnesty on a path to citizenship when their jobs become automated?

Oh yeah, you know those annoying folks at the fast food drive-up that can’t speak English? We can replace them too.

Funny how the articles were so concerned about doing away with "migrant workers" - thier jobs and opportunities. Seems the auto workers would have appreciated the same concern.

Also looks like the farmers are all into getting the machines - sure a far cry from what they are sayin now. It's all bout money in the end - no matter who ya are or what ya do - I guess

Interesting stuff Hiway
