Winning the war on terror

OK maybe I'm just nitpicking but this annoys the crap out of me for some reason.

It's debated on the news all the time between Dem's and Repub's 'Winning the war on terror.' Now just how is it possible to win a war against terror? That would be like trying to win a war against crime. There will always be crime and we will always have terrorist.

We can win individual battles but I just don't see how a war on terror could ever be won. I understand if this is just an expression but how can you debate some thing that can't be done. The Democrats claim we have no clear plan to 'Win the war on terror' DUH yet Republicans debate it all the time saying we are winning the war on terror.

Oh course there is no clear plan to win the war on terror because thats impossible. Can someone splain to me why they use this term?

I prefer to think of it as stopping/abating terroristic acts in the United States.

All those whiners wouldn't be whining if there was a burned out shell of a car sitting near every shopping center or bloody bodies laying on the floor of their favorite restaurant. No whining cuz they'd either be crying or dead.

What I don't like is the image the whining media is presenting to the rest of the world. Some are beginning to think we all are whiners.

This was posted on another board I participate in. The poster lives in Capetown South Africa.

Washington politics as usual is my best answer. Got to have a catchy phrase to sell something. Healthy debate is one thing, but what’s going on in the media isn’t about “winning the war on terror.” It’s about winning the next election. Way too much of the debate is nothing but pure BS from a party that wants to win back power in the worst way. We do ourselves more harm than good by showing the world all of our whiners that claim we are more evil than the terrorists we’re going after. And the final death blow will not come when we get OBL because we’re fighting a movement, not just a man or a country.

On a side note, Fox News Channel is repeating a special Sunday night that was aired last weekend called “Winning Iraq.” I think it’s worth watching because they spent six weeks outside the green zone and toured the country. If you think Iraq is just a sandbox with ignorant camel jockeys, you need to see this.

I have to agree about the media, they have way too much control over our lives. At any time during the day they have the power to change the mood of the country if we believe every thing they say. Just take a look back at Y2K. For months that's all we heard about in the news and when the time finally came people were in a panic, buying food, buying water, buying generators and when the dust cleared all these people had a lot of food water and generators they didn't need.

I've said it before & I'll say it again,

we live under 5 levels of powerful entities:
  1. The Supreme Court legislates from their Bench.
  2. The Media influences the world.
  3. The President.
  4. The Bureaucratic Regulators with Affirmative Action idiots in powerful seats.
  5. Least powrful of all: The Legislature that simply spends our money.

I agree.....I think "the war on terror" or terrorist will be an ongoing thing...just like the "war on drugs" (which we are losing). We cannot eradicate the world of terrorism just like we didn't eradicate the world of Nazi's or Communists...but we CAN make them less effective and we CAN take the fight to THEM so hopefully we don't have another 9/11 or worse....Fortunately we haven't had anything like that happen and I like to think it's because of what we are doing abroad. I honestly feel that IF the terrorist COULD strike here and wreak havoc on the masses they would so I feel that our "war on terror" is a success to some degree. The main terrorist that we deal with on a daily basis is the liberal media and most of the Democratic party. They do more to destroy this country from the inside out than the terrorist are doing.....sometimes I wonder if Osama isn't donating to the Democratic party....

Not all donations are monetary in form; but really, what does osama have to offer the Dems?

However, the Dems elite media machine is giving osama lots of support in his destruction of 'all things' not to his liking.
