| How soon some forget If you read today’s, December 7th, Dodge City Daily Disappointment, you would have learned from the front page: “Journey to Bethlehem Returns for Seventh Year” at the United Methodist Church in Jetmore. The “Windhorst Christmas Concert” is this Saturday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. About a documentary film by K. Ryan Jones focusing on the Westboro Baptist Church. That doctors delivered a set of triplets and quadruplets within hours of each other in New Orleans. All interesting news stories and information. While thumbing through the newspaper you would also read about: An editorial, tongue in cheek, promoting the heroics of a man removing a clog. How the “Red Crossbill” can be seen in Meade County. There are only two shopping Saturdays left at the Christmas Village in Meade. Keifer Sutherland was sentenced to 48 days in jail. Again, all interesting and entertaining. You would also have read and been reminded of a death due to icy roads, a death due to a collapsing parking structure in North Carolina, the killings and hopelessness of the killer in Omaha and a Navy chaplain giving HIV to his partner. Know what you would not have read about, or been reminded of, in today’s paper? Today, December 7th, is National Pearl Harbor Remembrance day. You know, that little incident that happened in 1941 involving an attack on American soil? Granted, only 2400 Americans lost their lives and the entire Pacific Fleet was almost wiped out, not to mention the thousands upon thousands of lives lost defending our nation in WWII. Yeah, it’s those little things in life that are so un-important when compared to triplets, documentaries, bird watching, concerts and clogs in drains. Well, I didn’t forget. I stood in the cold, icy, air this morning while lowering our great flag to half mast. I saluted that battered and torn flag while it whipped in the wind. The sounds of the edges snapping like a whip and the metal clips banging against the flag pole were crisp and sharp. I slowly lowered my salute and bowed my head. I remembered my great uncle who was peppered with bullets at Pearl Harbor. I tried to imagine the chaos and confusion as he manned a gun on the deck of his ship, only to feel the ripping of hot bullets from an enemy machine gun. I tried to imagine what he went through while lying on that deck, left for dead. I remembered the images I have seen of massive ships burning, explosions all around and the hail of gunfire and bombs. I again tried to imagine what that stench of burning oil and gunpowder was like. I tried to imagine what it must have been like for those sailors, trapped inside those ships, the sounds of metal being pushed to it’s limit as those ships rolled over in the water. I tried to imagine just how it felt to be trapped inside a metal coffin, the lights going out, the sounds of men screaming and banging on the bulkheads as they slowly died from suffocation and feeling the cold ocean rise against them in the darkness. I remembered the stories from the survivors of how they fought to the bone to free their comrades, only to have to let them die. I remembered this day in history in spite of my local paper forgetting.

| Rag? i GUESS, THAT WE HAVE ALWAYS KNOWN WHAT WE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH OUR LOCAL RAG. JUST A RAG, ONCE A RAG, ALWAYS A RAG. FOR SHAME. There for several days, I thought they were getting their CACA straight. |

| I remembered in more ways than one. In addition, I don't drive Japanese cars!! |

| The Globe copied and pasted a nice Pearl Harbor story onto page 5 of today's edition. Considderin' the rag (and being only one day late), I'd say they were on time.

| Please don't go too hard on the old Globe It's all we got Now how many of you remember that on Dec 8, 1941 The Japs went over and bombed Bataan and look what that started Yesterday I rode around and didn't see many American Flags flying in memory of Pearl Harbor HappyHunting |

| I'm surprised people still remember Pearl Harbor. Hell it seems half of the U.S. has forgotton 9/11. It seems we have a short term memory in this country. Hell some people (I won't mention any certain political party) even blame US (the United States) and our policies of freedom for 9/11 instead of fixing the blame elsewhere.... I wonder if those same people would have blamed Pearl Harbor on the U.S. for having a base too far West?
