Arlington at Christmas

Arlington at Christmas

I had no idea this was done. I thought you might want see it.

Rest easy, sleep well my brothers.
Know the line has held, your job is done.
Rest easy, sleep well.
Others have taken up where you fell, the line has held.
Peace, peace, and farewell...

Readers may be interested to know that these wreaths -- some 5,000 -- are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington, Maine. The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done this since 1992. A wonderful guy. Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out. Making this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state?

You hear too much about the bad things people do. Everyone should hear about this.

wow. I had no idea. Thanks, grainman, for the pics! Humbling that someone can underwrite the total cost of this and ask for nothing in return - not even free ads.

They laid wreaths out at Fort Dodge for Christmas also. It's not exactly Arlington but they are veterans none the less. It's a way of remembering our fallen vets at Christmas. Without the sacrifice of them and their families there would be no Christmas.

The Wreaths Across America ceremony held at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Fort Dodge yesterday was an extention of the wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery. The 679 wreaths received at Fort Dodge came from the Worcester Wreath Company out of Harrington, Maine. It has been advertised in the newspapers and on the radio to alert locals we have extended the wreath laying for fallen veterans in Kansas. I made a post called "Wreaths Across America" last week that spoke of this.

Not responded to does not mean it was ignored. Be thankful it wasn’t turned into some kind of political pissing contest.
