Cable or Dish

I've been condsidering switching from cable to dish. Just wanted to see if anyone out there has Dish & how they like it etc.. Also if you do have a Dish which company do you use? I'm just looking for any opinions or advice on which service is better.

I just recent;y switched from Cox Cable to ATT and Dish Network. I am very very happy with it. With Cox, I had trouble with my Internet 4-5 times a month and 2-3 times a month with my tv. Plus they charged me an arm and a leg!!! I have had no interruptions in the past 2 months with ATT and Dish Network. I am very happy so far. That is my two cents. I am around the wichita area so we have access to ATT.

I’ve had DIRECTV for over ten years and no real complaints. On occasions of severe overcast conditions like a major storm I’ve lost signal, but it’s rare. The picture is sharp and clear.

If you run multiple TVs (I don’t) I believe you pay extra for each feed and you need a tuner box for each TV as well as multiple heads on the dish.

I don’t have HD yet but I believe it costs extra at this time and requires an upgraded tuner that I don't have. I think all of the new tuners are HD. Check that if you want HD.

You own the tuner box as opposed to renting from the cable company so if it goes belly up it’s your problem.

I still use an antenna for local stations and save a few dollars per month.

If you don’t have a phone line you have to order PPV over the phone or Internet instead of just using the remote.

Avoid getting Internet service with the dish because it’s the most expensive service I’ve ever seen for Internet.

My cost is $52 per month for the basic channels (Choice Xtra). No movie packages, no local channels, no HD and one TV. PPV movies are normally $4.

I live in Dodge City and have had a problem with my internet maybe 4-5 times in the 6-7 years that I have had it. Two times was because my cable modem died. If you have Cox as an internet provider and switch to a dish your internet cost will go up when you drop the cable tv. I went to Direct TV for about 3-4 months and didn't see that much of a savings when I got the same comparable channels that I watch, and there weren't many, if any, advantages to having the dish so I went back to cable.

I am on Dish Network. It works great, and have had little problems. At one time I was on Direct TV, and had a lot of billing problems, etc, however that was when it was under Pegasus. On Dish Network, they have replaced the receiver when it went bad, and have upgraded as new ones came along, and have not "left you on your own" like HWY said DTV has done him. Since I live way out in the boonies, dish is my only possibility. I have no idea about comparing it to Cable.

When I was pricing service a couple of years ago (Comcast) the addition charge was $10 a month. Also they wanted another $10 a month for each addition computer you might add on. Qwest DSL didn’t charge any extra for addition computers. With one TV and two computers that was a factor for me.

I didn’t buy my unit from DTV and it’s been a long time ago. It would be worthwhile to check out the current service agreements.

Also, if you don’t use a landline for your phone service ask about a DSL only line. My daughter has one because she uses her cell for phone service.

I suppose that cheap shot is a payback for my jabs about your casino losses, which BTW, have reared their ugly head again. I’m hanging on to that little gift you sent me when you were throwing money around so your wife will have something to buy food for the baby when you’ve gambled away the rent money. Please seek some help loser.

I'm waiting for the "gamblers anon" thread to start. I will follow jeeze through the door. At one time I had 36,000+ now...I'm eating hamburgers out of the McDonalds trash dumpster. It's a long ways to the top but a quick ride to the bottom.....
