Don't forget Boot Hill! We have Boot Hill for something to do!

But what Dodge City really needs is a good ti.....errr, exotic dance bar!!!

Unfortunately, Bubba, Dodge City can't have an exotic dance bar........it's illegal. One of our past police chiefs and a local minister convinced our commissioners to make public nudity illegal because of the crime it might cause. Of course, we didn't have any strip club...........and since the law went into effect I doubt crime has went down much. I haven't read the statute lately but if I remember correctly it is written in such a way that even the exposure of the butt crack is illegal.......sorry plumbers.

Also, notice I said it depends on what you want to do. To say there is nothing to do is like my kid sitting in the front room on a weekend and telling me there is nothing to do. There is something, just probably not what a particular person wants. Having lived in San Diego and Las Vegas, yeah, I could say there is nothing to do here if I was comparing the town to one of those. Now, say, I lived in Sitka or Minneola.....then there is plenty to do here compared to those towns. You would notice a difference in peoples oppinions if you asked someone who has lived here most of their life as to one who is transplanted here.

I guess I'll have to build one just outside the city limits near the new casino!

You've got to look toward the future. Today Dodge City has little to offer in the way of incentive to live here, but that will all change in the near future.

Let me give you some examples I see in the future for dodge.

Our current problems are greatly increased by our packing plants we can all see that. Illegals being at the front of our crime and poor quality of life. We also know the packing plants have our leaders by the nuts so thats not going away, but it can be brought back to a minimum issue with the right leaders.

Once again I say a casino is going to turn this town upside down. You want better places to eat? Just wait until we get our casino. Big name restaurants will be pounding at our door. You want better entertainment? A casino will once again put Dodge City on the map. The tourist map that is, and that will bring all those money hungry sideshows we have been hoping for.

Once we can feed ourselves off the tourist flow our immigrant problem will be dealt with. Once our immigrants become a liability rather than an asset they will be sent packing.

I think Detector is right - to a point.

The point I differ on is............ who do you think works in the service industry?.................. waitresses, housekeeping, serving, cooking, grounds keeping, brick laying, concrete, - the list goes on. Your illegal flow is just starting. Of course that's no reason to not vote casino cause truth is if you don't someone else will. Often you take the lesser of 2 evils. Be broke or join the wave. The best you can do is bring solid money in so you can attempt to deal with the seedy side of immigration. With the monies ya'll will be making hopefully you will be able to pay your LEO some $$ so they can have ALL the tools they need to do thier job.

Thier job will get busier but not all illegals are dealing drugs and robbing folks. It's a delicate balance but just the mere fact of being illegal doesn't make you a threat to society. You have broken the law no doubt but not all of them are rapists and murderers. I think we need deport those that are.

Truth is most new business are built off the backs of illegals - as distasteful as it is - it's just the way it has become. I have met illegals that have been here 30 years - they just didn't do the paperwork but they have contributed to society and business. That doesn't mean I endorse illegal immigration but I do realize it's logically something that isn't going away anytime soon.

Now, perhaps, but that was not the case as I grew up.

Until I was in my 30's I worked construction from roofing, brick laying, concrete, grounds keeping, maintenance and building house and business buildings. Not a one job did I ever work beside an illegal. Not that I didn't know if they were illegal, I went through school with them and knew they were Americans. Thats right, local kids working for local businesses. Weird huh?

The problem is we have become dependent on illegals because they work for less with less maintenance. Mostly less maintenance. We did just fine BEFORE illegals, and we will do just fine when they leave.

There is another problem. What do kids fresh out of High School or for that matter kids over 16 that want summer jobs do? They work for less and no bennies, so how about those guys?

Plus not everyone is college or military material.(threw that in for Army...lol ) They need to learn a trade to support themselves.

I know kids are different now. But if parents say... "you want a car or what ever GET A JOB" ! Maybe they would if there were jobs available.

I am like Detector, except I babysat after school and during the summer.... so I could buy school clothes.

Illegals are hard workers getting low wages..no doubt and that is very appealing to employers. At what cost to our society tho.

It's at a HUGE cost to our society JW. Business is "built off the backs of illegals" because our gov't allows it to happen. If they would stiffen the penalties and ENFORCE them people would be forced to not hire illegals. In turn the illegals (not having any work) would self deport. (kind of like what is happening in Oklahoma and some other proactive area's)

Dodge is what it is. It's not going to "turn around over night". Sure there are things to do in this town; IE Great theatre, good Hs Sports Program etc. But there is also crime that is out of control. Before you start bringing in things to do you should have the city cleaned up a little bit.
