There is another problem. What do kids fresh out of High School or for that matter kids over 16 that want summer jobs do? They work for less and no bennies, so how about those guys?
I used to harvest for a summer job. If you really want a job they are everywhere, but if you're looking for the plush high paying job behind a desk you're going to need to get out of dodge. And get an education.

I started my first real job, not counting summer jobs, when I was 12. I had to lie about my age so I could get a job. I've been working ever since. I've never been jobless for more then a few weeks at most, and even then I felt worthless. Kids today have no ambition to work so they hire illegals that have the ambition.

It's a 2 way problem. Employers don't want to pay the wages American kids demand, so they hire illegals.

Let me give you some examples I see in the future for dodge.

Our current problems are greatly increased by our packing plants we can all see that. Illegals being at the front of our crime and poor quality of life. We also know the packing plants have our leaders by the nuts so thats not going away, but it can be brought back to a minimum issue with the right leaders.

Once again I say a casino is going to turn this town upside down. You want better places to eat? Just wait until we get our casino. Big name restaurants will be pounding at our door. You want better entertainment? A casino will once again put Dodge City on the map. The tourist map that is, and that will bring all those money hungry sideshows we have been hoping for.

Once we can feed ourselves off the tourist flow our immigrant problem will be dealt with. Once our immigrants become a liability rather than an asset they will be sent packing.
Seems to me that this type of rhetoric was behind the SEC. "Just wait until the SEC gets built then you'll see...Dodge will turn around."

What was said prior to the packing plants moving into town? "This will be beneficial for Dodge, you'll see."

Smoke and mirrors, my friends. A casino will only increase the illegal problem in Dodge, you'll see.

I'm not arguing with you but how will it make the problem with illegals worse?

I stay in a lot of hotels all over the country and in every one I see non english speaking maids and gardeners. Low paid employees overall and most probably illegal. The casino (if it is ever even built) will have a plethora of these low paying jobs that will be filled by even more illegals flocking to sanctuary Dodge City. Now granted there will be jobs for citizens as well, dealers, slot techs, pit bosses etc. but there are more behind the scenes low paying jobs than those "skilled" positions.

Tony - you are dead on. It will be worse in numbers - but they will be working numbers. I'm not sure how many would sign up to clean the ashtrays at a casino - course I'm sure that when the union shows up for the casino workers - ya'll gonna love that too. I can't believe anyone can't see how you will have more illegals with a casino - but in this life all things I guess are possible.

I would bet we have a much higher # of illegals that you do but truth is most are hard working - I don't think it's right but it's just the way it is. The politicians aren't going to fix it and the ones that brag that they will fix it are spittin in the wind. No one politician can fix anything - unless they sell thier soul to do it and right now it's a democratic soul - face it illegal immigration is going to be a way of life. Lots of republican companies have made their wealth off of the illegal by slighting the american worker. Who is to blame - them or us? We are so overran - blame just doesn't matter anymore - they are here and they are staying for now.

So right Detector. Jobs are everywhere, if you want to work. I have hauled hay for a penny a bale, worked for 50 cents an hour, and in tough times I used to pick up pop bottles for the deposit (that was many moons ago). I helped my Dad for free, then still found time to work for a neighbor for $50 a week. Helped roof houses, mowed grass, helped farm, drove trucks, delivered laundry, worked in a grocery store, and about anything I could find---but I was WORKING. I worked all through college full time, plus went to school full time. Granted, it was not easy, but I made it and it can be done. It justs takes a little "get up and go" and having ambition to provide and make something of yourself. In addition, you have to realize that you just cannot afford all the luxuries of life right off of the bat. You have to set goals, then achieve them. Another advantage, I have learned a wealth of knowledge from starting at the "ground floor", and that is something that they don't teach you in school.

And I'll bet you had to walk to and from school in a blizzard with no shoes...uphill...both ways.

I couldn't disagree more. I've lived in Las Vegas and been to other towns with casinos, and I sure didn't see near the illegals I see on a daily basis here in dodge. Granted, the room cleaners could have been illegal, but they did speak good English. Better than most we have serving customers here.

When you're at the bottom all you can do is go up.

Exhibit A: While you will see illegals cleaning and cooking at say the Pancake Inn, you don't see them at Applebee's. Hum? A casino WILL bring more Applebee's type eateries than Pancake Inn's. A better quality of businesses WILL follow a casino and better quality businesses are less likely to hire illegals.

Right now most businesses don't care about who they hire because our demographics make it unnecessary. Once we start seeing an increase in visitors, and we will, businesses will start being a bit more concerned about their image. Catering to clientèle is only good business, and what got us where we are to begin with. Once the clientèle changes, so will the businesses.

We will see a domino affect, you wait and see.

Grandpa took us in grade school, then we helped out at the warehouse when we got out of school. In Jr. High, we rode the bus. By High School, we had moved to town, and we did walk everyday until we were Seniors and got our first jalopy. And yes Tony, I remember walking in some pretty nasty weather, but it never dawned on us that it was anything unique. It was just another day in our "happy little lives"!
