The Anti-Christ

As a matter of full disclosure, Lou's a registered Republican who often votes Democrat. That said...

Many folks I work with, or visit with, have indicated a "possibility of concern". The topic? Is Obama the "anti-Christ" predicted by various "foreseers" of legend?

Some people have thought that Hitler, Stalin, Bin Laden or others have possibly, "maybe" filled that role. Remember this... the anti-Christ is supposed to be "charismatic", "influential" and at least potentialy "powerful".

Is Barack Obama that man? That's not my call, but sometimes I wonder...

Is a man who was raised Muslim the ideal man to run the USA and the free world? That's up to the registered voters... you and me. But religion and politics are the most dangerous topics out there, so...

What do you think?

In presidential elections, I voted for Reagan (both 1980 and 1984), but I also voted for Carter (1976) and Dukakis (1988). I won't say who I voted for in subsequent years, but maybe you will.

I'm not saying Obama is the anti-Christ... maybe he'd be a good President. But maybe my co-workers are right. What do you think?

Wow Lou, that’s one I haven’t heard. I can remember Bill Clinton accused of being the Anti-Christ which now appears not to be the case. Charismatic probably leaves Hillary out.

I'm thinking your co-workers need their tin foil hats adjusted.

First of all he wasn't raised a Muslim. His biological father was a black man from Kenya, his mother was a white woman from Wichita. They met at college in Hawaii and that is where Barack was born. His father was raised a Muslim, but there is no evidence that his father was ever a "radical Muslim." Senator Obama's family history shows that his father was an athiest or agnostic(i.e. no longer a practicing Muslim) by the time he married the younger Obama's mother.

this information came from snopes - Urban Legends Reference Pages: Who Is Barack Obama?

For the rest of your, or your co-workers, theories you can decide to believe them or not. That is up to you.

another example of what to expect this election -- lots of lies

mixed with half truth -- and spun around the web really fast.

It is going to be a hard time for all the candidates, especially the ones with ethics. Non-ethical, non-truthful web posts will make that sad 'swift' boat crap look like a church school by the time it is over.

And clearly the war on fundementalism must continue -- anti-christ ? -- get over the dark ages, please. Do people that can use computers actually believe stupidity like that ?

If you believe in the bible then you believe in the anti-Christ. And yes, people that believe in the bible do use computers.

You do realize it was this thinking that brought on the Holy Wars years ago?

Religion has been around just about as long as man has been. Nobody is forcing you to believe in religion, but history has shown what happens when you try and come between a man and his religion.

At least we agree that fundementalism brought on wars

No, that's not true. Accepting the lessons of a bible and believing in the rantings of certain books in it are not the same.

Certainly, I agree that believing only one religion is true did justify the Holy Wars -- although the real reasons were clearly political and for gain, as usual.

You obviously have created your own idea of what was the cause and reason behind the wars. Someday you should look into the facts and see what historians say really happened. But then hating religion so fiercely, you would only deny the facts anyway.

Best on web, per First Crusade | What that hate thing ?

The First Crusade, 1095-1100| Lectures in Medieval History

It's about as good as it goes on the web, re the first crusade.

And ?

huh ? Not being a fundementalist and disliking religion are two very different things -- I'm religious -- and certainly haven't stated otherwise. Sorry if I pricked a sore or something. You believe what you have to -- as will I. It's all just beliefs anyway, viewpoints, bias of society we live in, et al. Only when imposed and forced on others does it really matter, don't you think ?

How convenient it is to pickup the Holy War with the crusades of the 11th century, while ignoring the near 1000 years leading up to them.

Since the seventh century, when Mohammad waged war on Mecca, Muslim leaders vowed to destroy Christianity and take It's lands. Palestine, Syria and Egypt fell to Muslim conquest. By the 8th century Muslim armies conquered all Christian Africa and Spain. When Asia Minor(Turkey) and the Roman Empire in the 11th century fell to Muslim armies it gave rise to the crusades.

The Crusades were the results of 1000 years of Christians having their land taken by Muslims.
