| What way are you going? Amarillo has great western wear shopping. Dallas has the Galleria mall with ice skating. You could find your way past SA and go to the beach. That's all I have. I'm sure TexKan will help you though! |

| SA used to have a "River Walk" with all sorts of shops and restaurants. The Alamo has some interesting history. Also, check out the Lone Star Brewery (used to have alot of mounted animals, live catfish ponds, oh, and free beer). Of course, I was there for awhile in the USAF, and that was many moons ago. Not positive what they have now. One work of advice, beware of "Texans". They are everywhere! ![]() |

| The Riverwalk is downtown and real nice at this time of the year. Right across the street from the Riverwalk is Alamo Plaza, where of course, the Alamo is. Also, across the street in the other direction is Hemisfair Plaza with the 'Hemisfair tower' thing (looks like Seattles Spaceneedle).. If you dig history, then theres the 'Institute of Texan Cultures' downtown as well. Sea World and Fiesta Texas are on the northwest side of town off of Highway 151 (for Sea World) and Loop 1604 and I-10 for Fiesta Texas. A good place to eat is near the entrance to Sea World, its called 'Rudys' Worlds Worst Barbque'.. Dont let the name fool you, its real good. Also, Downtown is the 'Farmers Market' which is a cool place to waste time in, theres a world famous Mexican Restaurant in the market where all the Presidents eat at when they visit San Antonio, its called Mi Tierra. The Lone Star Brewery is no longer open to the public, as its was bought out by Coors. If youre into beer, then Shiner, Texas and the Spoetzel Brewery that makes Shiner Bock is not too far from San Antonio. If shoppings your thing, then there is a huge outlet store complex north of San Antonio in San Marcos, which is between San Antonio and Austin. Dont forget the San Antonio Spurs are in season right now at the AT&T Center... Hope some of this helps you.. |

| Now we are getting somewhere! Thanks for the input thus far! I just found out the Lone Star brewery is obsolete. World's Worst BBQ may be just the place to eat one evening. I also heard that the River will be turned green on St. Patty's Day. That should be a sight, I think. I have seen green water before and wasn't too impressed! Keep em coming!

| There's also a very famous Mexican restaurant there thats open 24/7 with strolling mariachis and stuff. Don't remember what it was called as it was many years ago but I heard that it's still open. We used to go there for late night munchies when I was in college down there.

| I LOVE San Antonio!! The River Walk is still there with all its glory - lots more sidewalk restaurants. You can walk for miles but beware of stumbling drunks! The river doesn't smell very clean anymore, but late at night, you can usually catch at least one drunk peeing or puking in it - so it's no wonder. Not far from the riverwalk are all kinds of local shops. Some gifty type stuff and some western stuff. It's just a great city full of history. Driving there is no picnic - too many streets with more than one name!

| We went last year. It was the best trip we'd taken in a long time. Take one day to tour all of the missions. There is a Mission Trail you follow - in your car, not on foot. Then take a day to do everything that is along the River Walk. If going to Sea World, check the internet right before you leave. We didn't & it was closed the day we had packed up to be there all day. Yeah, bad planning on our part. There is a lot of history in that area, if you like that sort of thing. We ran out of time trying to go & see all of the history. There are also some great historic towns on the way there that you may want to spend a day visiting. Fredericksberg (sic) comes to mind. It's a beautiful town that was started by a group of Germans. We went to SA for a week & just didn't have enough time for everything. We've talked about going back some time. I hope you enjoy your trip! |

| Spent some time on Fort Sam Houston (or something like that) West of San Antonio. We did our "survival training" out there, but all I saw was sage brush, the sun, and a bunch of "false enemies" trying to catch us. Maybe Army knows something about it, as If I remember right, it is an Army base. Oh, and the parachute ride was a "killer"! |
