This may have been true in the 50's and 60's because so many people clung so fiercely to their belief in God that finding otu we are not alone in the universe would have been too much. I mean they have enough of a problem explaining away dinosaurs and such that beings from outside of the Earth would really throw them off.

Indeed there still are people out there like that but I think there are enough open minded people on the planet that they'd be able to deal with it.

Hell, there are a lot of people who would be giddy to know they were right.

I guess until we have a moment, as depicted in "The Day The Earth Stood Still," and a ship lands with international media coverage we are subject to speculation and tin foil hats.

It's just that the Gov't does their "black ops" thing and certain people find out about it (liberals) they bitch and moan that we are treating someone wrong or doing something bad and want to have a hearing on it while our security is at risk.

And just what do you think would happen if the USA didn't have a conscience AKA Liberals?

If we all just said, well the government knows best and it's probably best if we let it take care of things. After all they are protecting us and that's all we need to know...

I didn't say we didn't have a conscience....but sometimes some unconsciencable things need to be done in far away places in order to make the world a safer place. We have people that do those things and the general public does NOT need to know about or approve of each little operation. Some of those things they wouldn't understand. All the general public needs to know is that they can go to the mall and not have to worry about a suitcase nuke going off or some little kid walking up to them and blowing up.

How about protection of technology that if gotten into the wrong hands would give power to dictatorships and other ne'er do wells. You seem to be of the opinion that everything should be open, but if that was the case the Germans would have had the same code breaking machines and computers the Brits would have had because of your wish for openness and truthiness or imagine how it would have turned out if the Japs and Germans had access to nuclear weapon technology because of this openness and truthiness you want. Imagine how WW2 would have turned out then.
