These are stats right from the PD. The good news is reported rape was down to 15...so we have only had 45 rapes in the last two years...in a town of 25,000. I would say that's a bit on the high side...

| I wouldn’t get too worried. If you lived in LA, you’ll probably find Dodge isn’t a bad place at all. Just please don’t try to Californicate Kansas while you’re here.

| If you are form LA, Calif, you won't find DC that bad. However, to us long time citizens of DC, the changes that we have encountered over the past several years are dis-heartening. WoW, AOO. I was impressed with those statistics. Actually, it appears that DC Stats are improving! Good JOb LEO's! |

| Everyone makes it out to be sooo horrible. Dodge is no worse than Garden or Liberal or any ot the other towns of compatible size. Come on people....let's just scare every one away.... Believe me....if you are coming from California the only thing you will be able to complain about is the weather and maybe the lack of things to do. |

| LA, my thought is that you'll find Dodge a completely different place than we describe or than you're from. Each neighborhood has it's "feel". Most smaller towns (less than 30,000 population) have the same sort of "feel". They mostly have limited entertainment options, limited restaurant options, limited occupation options. Sounds like you're coming for work, though, so the limited occupation options won't affect you. The others....well, you're used to having to get out of your neighborhood for those anyway. I live in Kansas City now. I drive 30-40 minutes one way to get a good burger like they have in Dodge City at Kate's. I have to drive further to get the good tacos. Heck, I drive 25 - 30 minutes on the expressway to get to work, where in Dodge, your drive should be only 10 minutes or so through town. I suspect you have the same sort of commute, too. So it will seem like nothing to drive to Hutchinson on occasion or Garden City or any place else. I think you will enjoy Dodge. And if you don't happen to, by chance, you'll be leaving soon anyway! Enjoy your stay and take advantage of being located in the midwest by travelling to Wichita and Kansas City!

| Dodge Dodge is a good town to live in. The area you're talking about is close to the new walking/biking trail. I see lots of people walking on it every day, so it can't be that unsafe. Actually, there are lots of people walking around that part of town--young, old, parents with kids, people walking dogs. Haven't ever heard of one being hit by a car. We've got shopping that draws in people from around SW Kansas, like Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, Bath & Body, Hibbitts and Foot Locker sports stores in the mall. Garden is getting a SAMs this year, and they have a Home Depot and Target. It's not Macys, but what you can't find in the local stores you can order on the internet. I've been lucky and my fence has never been tagged and my tires haven't been slashed (I live in north Dodge). We get the occasional Jehovah's Witness or Kirby Vacuum salesman, but other than that no one bugs us. As long as you don't have gang members living with you or living next door to you, you're pretty safe from drivebys. We know our neighbors and watch their houses when they are out of town. If you're looking for a job and have a good work record, there are lots of places who would love to hire you. Make the best of it while you're here. If you stick around a couple of years, you can even patronize the new casino if you're in to that kind of entertainment. |

| I'm from LA too- more specifically, Baldwin Park. Being from LA, you'll find Dodge City quite similar with a dash of cow manure smell and with much less to do, socially.
