Help! I've got FLEAS!!!

Went on a week long trip to Colorado, as part of my block leave. Being unable to take Sam the Dodgeboard cat along with us, he went to my moms house in Newton on the way out. Now, we knew Sam had fleas when we took him there, a flea bath the night before had drown about 30 fleas. We tried that flea stuff you drop on the back of the cats neck, but that didn't seem to work so well... anyway, long story short, we got back last night about 2300 and the wife and I came into the house to discover that we were both covered from the calf down in fleas within 5 min or so. We got all the kids back into the van and got a room at the local motel. I attacked the house today with no less than 12 cans of Hartz home fogger flea killer, and as I walk around here now, I am STILL seeing fleas. Granted, not as many, but still, after a dozen cans used properly, there shouldn't be a single one alive here... right?

Has this ever happened to any of you, and do you have any suggestions on how I might handle this, short of burning the house down? (Already thought of that.) Thanks in advance.

First off... Frontline. Get it. Use it. Keep it on the cat.

Go to the pet store and get the carpet powder that kills the evil little bastards.

Use it.

and then use it again.

you have to keep it up till you get the eggs and it may take a while.

My house was infested with fleas one time. The stuff you put on the cat takes awhile to work. It kills the fleas after they feed, but it has to work it's way into the system.
Bombing the house also takes awhile. The eggs are in the carpet and they have to hatch first. Movement triggers them (vibrations in the floor) then they hatch. The residual poison from the bombs then kills them. Try using a flea powder on the floors then vacuum. Treat the cat but keep it inside for a few days then use garlic powder on it's food (this keeps them from getting fleas and worms) during the summer.

(Soory Word, you posted faster than I did. lol)

Also when you vacuum buy one of those flea collars cut it into thirds, put one third in vacuum bag throw bag out after you vacuum. Put other pieces in zip lock bag and put them in freezer. Every time you vacuum put a piece of flea collar in new bag.Do this for a least 3 weeks. This is what our vet. told us to do, and it worked. Be sure you vacuum couch or anything with fabric on it. I highly recomend the front line dope. We first tryed the Hartz Mountain from Wallyworld and almost killed our cats. Hope this helps.

Be careful about using the Hartz and other DIY stuff from retail stores.

I almost killed my cat with that stuff. Vet says he's treated many sick animals that had been treated with HARTZ. It is a very harsh insecticide.

Even though you put it on the coat or skin, it does enter the bloodstream.

The vets use the good stuff (that wont cause kidney/liver damage) and it's worth the money.

I've avoided this thread cuz I don't have anything constructive to add, but I can't believe you've been overseas in combat and come home and get fleas! How does that happen? And to the Dodgeboard cat! Just take care the fleas stuff doesn't make the kiddos sick.

It's been my experience that Frontline is the only thing worth the time or money to put on the cat.

The stuff you buy at Malwart is useless.

You can douse your kitty in lighter fluid and strike a match...the fleas will be done for sure but it's kind of rough on the kitty. You can change his name to "scorch"....lol

You are missing out on an opportunity for a second income here. Certainly your community could benefit from another entertainment venue. Do it for the neighbors and the less advantaged.
