Opportunity vs the Right

I saw on the news this morning that some town down in Florida has canceled their Little League annual All-Star baseball game because they felt it "promoted that some kids are better than others." Now I realize Liberals have some really bazaar concepts, just look at No Child Left Behind, but this is so out there I can't help but feel there has got to be more to it.

HELLO, Mr. Obvious here, Yes some kids are better than others at sports. Thats the whole idea of an All-Star game. DOH!

Some one please splain to me what brainless wonder would have such thoughts. Maybe they don't teach it any more, but when I was in school it was taught that most of our greatest achievers came from very humble backgrounds and through hard work and ambition made it to the top. In fact in many cases their greatness was attributed to their extreme struggle to make something of themselves.

This is just so bazaar and so plain stupid I can't help but think there is more to the story. Perhaps a person of high standing/influence was pissed because their kid didn't make the All-Star team?

Quite frankly, this is what is wrong with the world today. 20 yrs ago, it was decided that it was not nice to teach a kid to lose, or to think that someone was better than him/her in anything sport related (then into acedemia).

Therefore, we have bred a generation of people who do not know how to lose, bitch about fairness, and have the work ethic of a slug. These people are the ones bitching about deserving a raise without ever doing more than showing up to work.

This sis a bad thing, and it is time we teach kids to lose. By doing so, they can see that the bar is set high and the only way to reach that bar is to work harder, study more, and focus.

I guess thats why I've never understood the whole "Equal Rights" idea. Equal Opportunity I understand because we should all have equal opportunity under the law, but I don't think we all should have equal rights.

I visualize Billy and Denver Carson Wentworth, 2 boys that go to the same school and play on the same Little League team. Billy comes home from school and practices his baseball at least 2 hours a night, while Wentworth comes home from school and plays video games. As a result Billy got very good and Wentworth did not. What would make anyone think Wentworth should have the same Right to play in the All-Star game as Billy? They both had equal opportunity only one chose to use it, and that should give Billy the Right to play.

Are you blaming that POS "No Child Left Behind" on the liberals? Or are you just one of the people who've never had to deal with it who thinks it works?

Actually, No Child Left Behind was not a liberal idea, but the brainchild of dumbya himself.

But back to the topic at hand, I completely agree with you that it is complete BS how the competitiveness is being taken out of sports so that kids can feel good about themselves. Kids can't play dodgeball anymore because they might get hurt or the fat kid might get picked on. Kids can't pick teams on the playground anymore because the kid who gets picked last will have bad self esteem. You get a trophy when your team finishes in eighth place in an eight team tournament. I don't know what happened to the notion that if you get your butt kicked or picked last, you just practice harder and try to get better. I guess that is just too much work.

The Liberals and the NEA are taking any type of competition out of EVERYTHING. IN many schools kids get passing marks for just "trying". These are the same kids that will get ran over in the "real world" where most people are competitive. We are producing non competitive kids that will grow up expecting to be given stuff for "trying". Last time I checked..."trying" in our society doesn't get you much...well at least not until Obama takes office. Our kids are being set up for failure.

Hell no!

This very program supposes that all these kids are the same that they can and will learn at the same rate.

And if they DON'T all learn and hit the benchmarks then you loose your federal money.

If a teacher tries to give a kid the grade they actually earn the get pressured to pass them anyway to keep things moving.

NCLB is really the problem in those kids moving on who shouldn't. You teach them how to answer the test and then send them on their way.

Obama is against No Child Left Behind as it stands now, so I see that as a step in the right direction, not failure.

You know, it must be tough just sitting there and blaming all the problems in the world on liberals. I'll admit, liberals have done and will continue to do some stupid things. Newsflash, conservatives have been known to do some stupid things also.
