Well first i'll say that I agree with the whole telling us what we can and can't do, but second hand smoke may not kill, but it's disgusting. It makes my eyes water and makes me cough and makes my clothes stink of tobacco. I shouldn't have to deal with this if I am not a smoker right? Now true car exhaust may kill us too, but you don't see me standing behind a car breathing it in.

I'd agree. When I quite smoking, for awhile, I found second hand smoke to be disgusting myself, but then I find some womens perfume and mens cologne disgusting, and quite frankly, I'd be surprised if it wasn't harmful to my health. But the choice is what matters.

A place of business should have the choice to allow smoking, just as you have the choice not to go there if you find it disgusting. Going to a place of business knowing there will be smoke and then complaining is like sticking your head to the tailpipe of a car and complaining because it might hurt you.

They would never put a smoking ban to a vote because they know the outcome. It is a matter of choice and the elimination of said choice, nothing more. As has already been said, where do we stop? when we no longer have any choices? We might as well move to Europe.

As I have said before I dislike smoking, but I don't feel comfortable with that choice being made for me. If they keep taking away freedoms when will it end? But at the same time how many places would be left for non-smokers to go if they avoided all the places that allowed smoking? Smokers make up a large percentage of people anymore and alot of businesses if given the choice would cater to the smokers. Would that leave anywhere for us non-smokers to go?

It's my understanding that 20% of American adults smoke. That means 80% don't. Out of all the restaurants I know in dodge only 1 allows smoking, and all the other are non-smoking. In fact I don't know of any public place that allows smoking that is not isolated from the public. I'm sure bars do but I don't go there.

I can't think of any public place where smoking is already not allowed. So it is a matter of taking away our choice and nothing more.

Think about it.

The government takes billions (if not trillions) of dollars in taxes on tobacco products.

The government funds studies to continue to prove repeatedly that smoking is harmful. These studies justify the tax burden.

The government sucks in more billions of dollars through the Master Settlement Agreement based on those government funded studies.

Private enterprise makes billions of dollars on stop smoking products and services. Those businesses lobby Congress.

There are a whole host of anti-smoking educational organizations that lobby and get tax dollars to pay their own salaries for promoting the risks of tobacco use.

With trillions of dollars at stake, does anyone believe that all of those studies haven’t been twisted to protect this money making machine?

"Choice" seems to be the big no.1 that repeatedly gets mentioned.

Just a couple of things I'd be interested in hearing your comments on:

Should personal choice take precedence over what's good for our community/society as a whole?

If someone choses to shoot heroin up his arm, having bought it from "The Man", should he be allowed to do so?

And who decides what is "good for our community/society as a whole?" our community or our "nanny" government? As I said, it won't be put to a vote, by the community, because they know the outcome.

Of course not. Surely you're not insinuating that smoking a cigarette is like shooting heroin?
