I have to agree with MitUSA. The Border Collie would be an excellent choice. I don't recommend a weiner dog for young children. They are great with children, but small, and small children can get a little rough on a small dog. Believe me, I have one. He is good with kids, but when they get a little rough, he tries to bite (and faces are very easy to grab).

Good luck in whatever you choose. It will be a great friend to a child.

    Dog for daughter

Army, I have two dogs that could be just great for your daughter and your family!
Akita, if you can even find one around here! These dogs were bred in Japan to hunt bears! But the most amazing thing about these dogs, is that the mothers would leave they're children with the Akita. The dog would watch over the children while the moms went to town to do what moms do in town? lolo (sorry) The dogs would not let the children stray off, and if they did, the dogs would grab ahold and pull them back to the other members of the household!
Also, a Lab! Now these are just wonderful caring dogs that just thrive in family settings! They play with the kids until the children are so tired, all they can do is sit down for a spell!
Another factor in deciding a dog for the family, is DOES IT SHED!!!! LORD have mercy, I have had dogs that do nothing but shed! If this is the case, make sure you have a good vacuum on hand! lolol Hope this helps!

I would not get a chihuahua...because they run the risk of being illegal...we all know they come from Mexico and could possibly be here illegally. And we all know how you do not like illegals and would not want you to risk housing and taking care of a possible illegal. And it may just speak Spanish and not want to learn English even though it is in this country.

Plus every time i see one i just want to go for a punting record.

    Sorry...Had to be done.

But look at the financial benefits the household would then be eligible for. Like free medical care.

Actually my wife speaks fluent Spanish so I'm sure she could train the chihuahua to be bi-lingual. I could get fake papers on the dog and give it a ssn....
